Right now it may seem funny to post silly selfies or make jokes at other people on the internet, but it can definitely haunt your future. For example if you were offered a job and they decided to search up your name, it would be all down to what you’ve done. Or another good example would be trying to apply for a university or college, many students have been denied because of inappropriate behaviour online posted by their friends. It might even affect relationships depending on the situation. The problem with online behaviour, is the pressure that comes with it, because you want to have a presence online with all your friends but at the same time you don’t want to over do it. I always remember that everything i post is permanent and that why we must always be careful about what we do with our digital footprint.
I think, preventing your digital foot print from going downhill would be not posting silly, dirty, or inappropriate posts because anyone can find it and show anyone what you said. another way you can avoid getting into trouble would be not posting everyday on social media or avoiding bad influences, for example if you post yourself at a party or doing an illegal substance, you will never be able to take it down even if you do decide to delete the post, the photo/ video will always be in the system which the police can very easily find if they got involved. Another strategy to keeping your digital footprint positive would be having common sense, if you see something that seems wrong or you’re unsure about posting something, its best not post it at all.and Going on rants on Facebook or posting inappropriate pictures on instagram can always be tracked by your name, always remember that.
I learned that the internet is filled with positive messages and is very good for publishing anything, but unfortunately some people take advantage of that and they pay the price for what they’ve done. one wrong move can effect your whole future. The most important thing I’ve learned was that the internet is a very large place and many eyes are on it 24/7 which is why you should always think twice before posting something you will forever regret. if i could warn someone before posting something stupid i would definitely prevent it from happening only because i know that the after affect of an incident like that would ruin their life. my only advice would be, use your common sense and the feeling in your gut.
