DEFINE, DREAM, DELIVER, DEBRIEF

I am hoping to find if their is a way to reduce pollution exponentially, more than any other solution.

As for my ideas, I have a few, including: Not driving when not needed, avoiding using anything gas related, and just conserve energy overall.

Out of these all, I find it apparent that automobiles of any kind are the biggest impact. Although their isn’t much you can do about this, since for some people they need to drive to work etc. Their are still some thing that can still help such as,

  1. Don’t leave your car idle
  2. Try to reduce the amount of trips you make in a day to a bare minimum
  3. Keep your vehicle in good condition, with the tires inflated to reduce exhaust.

If I could change what I did, I would take much more time on this project to take it slow and really think about things. But I was in a rush to hand this in, which is my fault. But overall, these tips are still completely valid and doing them will help reduce pollution.

Information Fluency

Question: Is it possible to live on mars?

  1. I had to research what made a planet habitable, what tech we would need.
  2. I used a source checker, to check if the info was reliable. See bottom for link.
  3. I went through all the info, and tried to deduct the most crucial parts.
  4. I checked multiple sources, and used to source checker to see if they are viable sources of information.
  5. I think I could have took more time, but I was in a rush to finish this so, that’s that.

Community Communication Alternate

The volunteer opportunity I saw was for grocery shopping in Vancouver.  I believe this would benefit my future as it would help me gain experience and potentially score a job their in the future. I’m not really “passionate” about this job, but I wouldn’t mind doing it.

The employment opportunity that intrigued me, was a job to be a graphic designer in Surrey. I think this would benefit my future as it’s a practical skill, and pays well. Prerequisites are not listed, but I assume a degree in graphic design would go a long way. I’m mediocre at using Photoshop, but that’s it. The steps i’d need to take would be learning how to use Photoshop, and potentially getting a degree.

On The Sidewalk Bleeding

Gang Member Stabbed in New York Alleyway

At around 11:30 PM, A 16 year old was stabbed to death by unknown suspect.  This is the third stabbing of a Royals gang member this year, and it is thought to be related to the last two stabbings. Andy is thought to have been in a gang, as he was stabbed in the stomach while wearing a Royals jacket.  Bystanders admitted that they did not wish to be involved.

“It all happened really quickly,” says Angela. “everything seemed to go by super quickly.”  Her boyfriend, Freddie says that Andy didn’t seem like he was going to die, he just seemed in pain.

It seemed as if none of the bystanders helped, merely because he was part of a gang.  Corey Gill, the owner of the well-known bakery, United Cakes of America, says, “It was really weird.  I was just closing up my shop from baking a huge wedding cake, and all of a sudden, I see people walking out of the alley super shaken up.  But then again, I didn’t think much of it, because this is New York and a lot happens here.  I feel bad though.  I should have looked further into it.  No one looks that shaken up after nothing happens.”

The felon is thought to be apart of rival gang called the Guardians, as the last two victims were killed by members of the Guardians. The police are still investigating, so if you or anyone you know has any information leading up to this case, contact us.

A Mountains Journey – Questions & Vocabulary

Questions:

1. What was Dave Conroy doing out in the wilderness? (motivation)

Dave hunting animals for their fur in the wilderness.

2. At what point does the reader know the protagonist is in serious trouble and not likely to make it to MacMoran’s cabin? (plot)

The point where you know Conroy is in trouble is when you know he wont be able to make it to the cabin.

3. What three critical mistakes did Conroy make? What are some of the things he could have done to prevent himself from freezing? (plot)

One of his mistakes was that he didnt have hypothermia and didn’t need to rest. If he hadn’t he could have rested and continue his journey later. If he stopped after falling in the river he would have been fine, but he thought he didn’t have hypothermia. His not realizing that he had hypothermia was his biggest mistake because that is how he died. If he had realized this sooner, he could have made a fire before his hands became numb.

4. Determine the elements of plot in this story: exposition, complicating incident, 3 crises, climax, and the denouement.

Exposition: Conroy is outside in the wilderness and the only thing stopping him and what was in his way, the snow, the cold.

3 Crisises:

1. Conroy fell into the river.

2. Conroy got to the cabin and saw that it was gone.

3. Conroy tried to make a fire, but his hands were too cold.

Climax: He gets to his cabin once its all gone so he decides to hike to another cabin to spend the night. While he was on the way he got tired and lied down to take a rest and he fell asleep.

5. Describe the setting – how does the setting affect the plot and the theme of the story? What is the theme – write a theme statement for this story.

The setting is in Hoodoo Creek, Alberta, in the winter. The setting affects the plot by being the antagonist in the story. It also affects the theme by making Conroy try to make it in the wilderness.

6. Find one example of a symbolic setting (a concrete place that represents something abstract) and explain its meaning.

The tree that was calling Conroy’s name was a symbolic setting because that isn’t normal and it was a message to stop going.

7. Quote four images from the story that make effective comparisons (figurative language: simile, metaphor, and personification)

Simile: “At every step too, he had broken tail and his skis had sunk a foot in the new snow, white and soft as flower” pg. 1

Simile:      “That tree, like a strong and lonely woman, called to his weary body to stop.” pg. 1

Metaphor:   “The cold was an old mans fingers creeping craftily through his clothes.” pg. 1

Personification: “But no log walls to greet him” pg. 3

Gender Equality

” Although gender equality is an issue faced by every single woman in the world, there is a high probability that the sports industry is the area that suffers the most with this problem. Besides the challenges that athletes encounter on a daily basis, female athletes have to confront several other complications on and off their fields of work.
Female athletes are involved in an eternal fight for their rights; a fight that makes several of them go as far as to give up on their dreams. The problems are countless. Women are objectified by fans, commentators, and even coaches because people look at women’s sports as a showcase for their pleasure. Female athletes have to deal with sexist comments coming especially from men who think these female athletes aren’t strong or talented enough to perform well.
“The biggest frustration for women is the inequality of pay between genders.”
However, the topic that causes the biggest frustration for women is the inequality of pay between genders. Cases of female athletes that have come to the media to fight for their rights have become more popular throughout the last decade. One recent case involving the USA women’s and men’s soccer teams brought up this endless discussion about equal payment in sports between genders.
After the men’s World Cup in 2014 and women’s World Cup in 2015, five players from the women’s team filed complaints targeting the U.S. Federation for wage discrimination. The women’s team beat Japan in the championship game to become the best team in the world for the third time, while the men’s team suffered one more early elimination in their history.
Although the results put the women’s team on the top, the amount awarded by the players wasn’t nearly equal. In addition, almost 30 million people watched the women’s soccer finale on TV in the United States as the American team finished their undefeated competition with a monumental win over the Asian team. This game remains the most watched soccer match in the history of the country, including men’s games.
But even with women’s teams gaining popularity around the world, it seems that equality between genders is inevitably going to be an issue in the sports industry for many more years. This is because people continue to deny that female athletes are capable enough to perform at a high level and to make a spectacle for their audience. “
  1.       This article is about gender equality in sports, and how it’s an issue that has most likely impacted most female athletes. The article is specifically addressing five players from the U.S Olympic team who filed complaints about wage discrimination. I chose this article because imagining it myself, I would be pretty ticked off if I got paid less than someone else for something I can’t change. They said, “The biggest frustration for women is the inequality of pay between genders.” Not to mention the sexist comments they said they endure from coaches, commentators, and fans. In my eyes, I think this article relates to, “The Friday Everything Changed” in the sense that in both situations, the women were discriminated against just for being a woman. My personal opinion is that everyone should just be treated the same. I don’t understand why it would be so hard to just treat everyone the same, regardless of gender, skin tone, wealth, etc. I think that if not only gender equality but equality for everyone was in place, the world would be a better place.

How Cells Multiply.

How Cells Multiply

In this post I will show me knowledge of asexual reproduction, sexual reproduction, and the stages of mitosis.

Asexual Reproduction

Asexual Reproduction is when a organism can create offspring without the need of a other organism. The offspring is always genetically identical to the parent.

Some of the good things about asexual reproduction include :

  • No energy required to find a mate.
  • Can reproduce large amounts of offspring quickly.

Only one parent is needed to produce offspring.

 Disadvantages

  •  If the parent has a mutation, all offspring will have the same mutation.
  • Can be hard for the offspring to adapt if they are born in different conditions than the parent is used to.
  • Overpopulation could be an issue.

Sexual Reproduction

Sexual Reproduction is when two parents are need to create offspring. The offspring is more than not similar to the parents, getting a X and Y chromosome from each parent. But develop their own features also.

Advantages

  • The offspring can adapt to the environment around them

If one parent has a mutation the offspring has a chance to not be affected by the mutation.

Disadvantages

  • Sometimes lots of time and energy are needed to find a mate.
  • Can not reproduce as fast as asexual organisms.
  • Although the chance is lower, mutations can still be passed to offspring through sexual reproduction.

Mitosis Stages

Mitosis, is used in asexual reproduction                                                                                                    .Image result for mitosis Cell cycle"

Meiosis is used in sexual reproduction.

Image result for meisos Cell cycle"

The cell cycles for Mitosis and Meiosis are similar but not quite the same.

With mitosis, the daughter cells are genetically identical to the parent cell. Which has some disadvantage and advantages as I have stated above.

With meiosis the daughter cells are a mix of the two parents cells. This also has different advantages and disadvantaged as I have stated above.

Growth of organisms.

You and me, right now, are growing. Organisms grow because of mitosis and meiosis. But in me and you, meiosis is going on. Our cells are multiplying at a supersonic rate, everyday billions of cells are made and billions of cells die. The very reason we get taller, and mature is because of our cells rapidly multiplying within our body.

I’m aware this is late but please mark it.

Adaptive Tech Innovations

It all started when Mr. Robinson introduced us to Tim on Skype and his daughter told us about his disabilities and struggles throughout day-to-day life. We were able to connect and communicate with Tim only a handful amount of times, so we tried to learn about his struggles to the best of our ability. Our idea was to create a simplified remote to aid him in using the television. This remote would get rid of the less important functions on the remote only leaving the necessary remote, so he doesn’t accidentally press a random button. The skills me and my group developed included was using Tinkercad to design the remote, we also practiced our creative and critical thinking skills in the process of designing the remote. I would post a picture of the remote to show the skills in action, but… I lost the picture, oops. I feel I have met my learning goals just adequately, I could definitely improve on my time management. In conclusion, I believe the collaboration went pretty well, and I learned lots of things about Hunting-sons disease and about 3D printing and designing. Overall, I feel good about the experience and hope to tinker with Tinkercad in the future.
