I think that the government is not responsible for the decisions and actions of the previous governments because things have now changed and the government knows better now. We did not have control over what the government did in the past today, but we can try and fix them and reconcile with the people we harmed or offended.   The Guatemalan Genocide began in 1984. It was the Guatemalan government against the Mayans. The Mayans wanted more equality towards their language and culture, but the Guatemalan government didn’t want them to have any sign of power. A civil war started between the two, once the Guatemalans attacked a nearby Mayan village. The village was destroyed, along with many of the villagers killed or captured.
