Solving Radical Equation

How to solving radical equation

  1. Isolate the radical expression
  2. Square both sides of the equation: If  x = y then x² = y²
  3. Once the radical is removed, solve for the unknown
  4. Check all answers.

Example.

  1. 𝒙² – 3 =13

+3        +3

√𝒙² = √16

𝒙 = 4

𝒙 = 4

 

2.  √𝒙+8 = 3

(√𝒙+8)² = 3²

𝒙 + 8 = 9

𝒙 = 1
