nuclear power debate

Nuclear power is very controversial but I believe it has a lot more positives then negatives, nuclear power is one of the most environmentally safe energy resources we have currently and the fact we aren’t putting it to use, and we continue to pollute our planet. nuclear power doesn’t create so much fossil fuels and pollution is killing us slowly and killing out planet

Nuclear power is one of the most efficient producers of energy, if you consider wind or solar power those are variant on weather conditions where nuclear power can run all year long no matter the weather almost 97% of nuclear power is converted into energy leaving just little more than 3% for waste. Yes, nuclear-powered is expensive in the beginning but after we get it going it will be cheaper in the grand scheme of things. Nuclear power costs around 4 cents per kilowatt hour where if u compare it to the cost of solar which is 16 cents per kilowatt hour.

People tend to argue because of the radioactive isotopes that the radiation will kill people but there’s only 43 direct deaths ever recorded due to nuclear power plants. But if we consider the deaths due to fossil fuels there’s upwards of 3000 deaths.

Blackout Poem – “I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS”

(anger,trapped,prison, free,escape,people,chance

“I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” by Maya Angelou is a very inspirational poem that I believe is a contrast of people of color and Caucasians during this time period, the caged bird being the people of color and the free bird being the Caucasian. The theme of this poem is easily identified as her discussing racism in this time period, after you learn about her past and identify that she was a black woman in the 1960s. The first two verses contrast two birds. the first describe the actions of a bird that is free, and the second stanza tells of a captured bird that must endure clipped wings, tied feet, and bars of rage; yet he still opens his throat and sings. The third and fifth stanzas are identical. This repeated verse develops about the freedom trilled by the caged bird; Although his heart is uncomfortable. The fourth stanza continues the comparison of two birds, the cage and the freedom. This poem is significant because it does talk about the cruel reality of the world at that point in time and it talks about the struggles of being African American women in the time period, it may not use those direct words but understanding the time period and a little bit of her story it becomes obvious to readers. The poem is a metaphor, the poem is not about bird at all its about people its talking about how some people had the freedom to do whatever they pleased even if that was owning a “caged bird”. Caged bird of course being a symbol for people of color in that time period. The poet also uses repititon to really illustrate this image into your mind.

the magic of light

When the arrow is moved a certain distance behind the glass, it seems that it has reversed. When light passes from one material to another, it can bend or refract. In this experiment, it traveled through the air, through the glass, through the water, through the back of the glass, then through the air, before hitting the arrow. Whenever light passes from one medium or material to another, it refracts. you must think of the glass of water as if it were a magnifying glass. When the light passes through a magnifying glass, the light leans toward the center. beyond the focal point, the image appears to be reversed because the rays of light that folded intersect and the light that was on the right side is now left and left to right, so that the arrow appears reverse.

Walter Mittys 6th dream

“He took one last drag on his cigarette and snapped it away. Then with that faint, fleeting smile playing about his lips, he faced the firing squad; erect and motionless, proud and disdainful, Walter Mitty the Undefeated, inscrutable to the last.”

Walter Mitty, makes eye contact with one man in particular; nothing too special about this man, he’s not the biggest, but you can tell he wants to be. “I’m going to walk away, and you’re not going to say a word” said Walter Mitty with insolence. The man grabbed him to yank him back… “Walter get out of the way, people are trying to walk, “She says distastefully yanking him back. “I got what I needed Walter we can go now.” She says this every time she’s going to see something in the window and want to go look, Walter thought to himself. “Walter, I must see that necklace, you see that one, right there in the window, mine is old and shineless it must be replaced, I’ll only be a minute you can wait here, it’s not like you have any interest in shopping with me anyway.” Mrs. Mitty marched off into the store. Walter Mitty thought to himself; it’s so cold out here I can see everyone’s breath it’s almost smoky.

… “C’mon Mitty use this powder, make it smoky so we can see the security sensors.” Rough pup demanded “Trip over those lasers and were going to jail for an absurd amount of time” Mitty saw an opening by the corner he rolls, barley missing the darting light. Walter makes it to the end, rough pup looking at him as if he’s just made a fool out of himself, but he made it never the less, “around this corner the security guard I can hear him snacking, why are security guards always snacking” whispers rough pup to Mitty. Mitty sneaks up behind the security guard, he turns around, Mitty was not expecting it, Walter Mitty head-butts the security guard. He’s breathing! Although he’s out cold, and will be for a while.” “You didn’t try to kill him. Did you?” Rough pup asking insinuatingly. While conversations were occurring, they failed to notice the trip wires. Walter didn’t even notice he had stepped on it, pandemonium was brewing.

Plot point photos father son

The goal of this project is to take pictures to represent quotes from different plot points from the story “Father and Son” written by Bernard McLaverty tells about the relationship between a father and his son. The father lost his wife, the son lost his mother; the father and son aren’t able to cope with their losses. The son doesn’t talk to his father: He hates his father for having less courage than a mouse. The father loves his son because he seems to be the only one who is left for him to love. Therefore, he is worried about his son all the time because he doesn’t know what he is doing all day long or the nights when he fails to return home. His son isolates himself by locking the door to his room because he believes that his “lousy” father isn’t strong enough to help him with his problems, which are not fully explained; but there are clues that it they are possibly drug related. It’s a possibility that the son feels threatened as well and that would explain why has a gun under his pillow. This attitude towards his father could have been interpreted as a cry for help. the father wants to make thinks better, but he feels as if he is unable to because his son hates him. One evening his son answers the door and is shot. The background to this is not so easy to understand, but it looks like the son was involved in any sort of gang or drug related violence

1) Exposition
Quote: “He will stand in his bare feet, his shoes and socks in his hand, looking at me. I will sleep for him”
Explanation: This quote introduces the characters to the reader. It also gives the reader a sense of the setting. The son is faking being asleep so that the dad will stop worrying about him. This shows us the audience that he’s trying to find a reason not to speak to his father.

2) Rising Action
Quote: “My son is breaking my heart. It is already broken.”
Explanation: This dads heart is breaking because the son refuses to talk to him. The son and dad have a failing relationship and the dad just wants things to work out. The dads heart is breaking because even though he tries so hard, his son continues to break his heart.

3) Rising Action
Quote: “You think that the world is waiting around the corner to blow your head off
Explanation: The son says this to the dad to display his frustration to his father’s cowardness. The dad is constantly worrying about what his son is doing and if he’s okay. The son dislikes this and wishes his father would back off sometimes.

4) Rising Action
Quote: “Why don’t you tell me where you are” “Because I never know where I am”
Explanation: The father asks his son where he is. His son replies with I don’t know because he is out doing bad things and often doesn’t even know where he is. His father is concerned with this and his father goes days on end without hearing from his son. His father hears about people dead on the news that match his son’s description. The father never knows if his son is alive or not.

5) Rising Action
Quote: “Look Da, I haven’t touched the stuff since I came back”
Explanation: The son hasn’t used drugs since he came back home. The father isn’t satisfied enough with this because his son came back him when the father dragged him out of a drug house “like a dog”. The son is frustrated that his father still doesn’t trust him but the father feels like the son hasn’t earned his trust.

6) Climax
Quote: “There is a bang… My son is lying on the floor, his head on the bottom stair, his feet on the threshold”
Explanation: We hear the son having a conversation with an unidentified voice. The son knows this person but he is not introduced to the reader. There was a loud bang. The father does not know it yet but his son has been shot. He keeps trying to get a response out of his son but his son lays still.

7) Falling Action
Quote: “Blood is spilling from his nose”
Explanation: This displays the story rapidly coming to an end as the son’s life is taken away from him. His father is becoming aware that something is askew and he is becoming increasingly nervous. The father is terrified and the readers feel a sense of grief for the father that tried so hard to protect his son.

8) Denouement
Quote: I take my sons limp head in my hands and see a hole in his head that shouldn’t be there”
Explanation: His father has just realized his son is gone. He sees the bullet hole and his whole world comes crashing down on him. His son has been killed and he feels like he could have done more to stop it. He would give anything just to have his son back.
