Professor at UBC and Associate Director at VCHRI.

What is your job description?

Conducting health research supervising undergraduate, graduate, and post docs. He also does a lot of writing and reviewing of grants.

What are the duties and/or tasks you perform at your job?

Teaching, lecturing, mentoring, innovating, leading, writing, reading, reviewing, traveling.

What qualifications do you have for this job in the following areas:

What are some things you like about the job?

Always something new everyday, gets to share new discoveries, travels around the world, and gets to meet interesting people, training the next generation of researchers.

What are some things you dislike about the job?

Getting rejected for publications and grants, negative attitudes, reviewing grants when time is limited.

How do you anticipate this job changing in the next 5 years or so?

Administrative duties will increase.

1) I would get to travel to many places around the world. 2) Get to make a difference in other peoples lives. 3) Discovering new things and sharing them with others.

1) Can be very stressful. 2) Sometimes there can be a lot of pressure. 3) Lots of time away from home.

Is this job for you?

It’s hard to say right now because over time, like my dad, interests change. He never  thought he’d be where he is today. I have many interests and I have no clue where they will take me.

Explain the value of the TOKTW experience in relation to your ideas about your post secondary (after high school) plans (education?, training?, travel?, work?). 

It gave me a better understanding of which education and the level of education that I need to keep my options open in life.
