Photography 12 Portfolio

It’s been another semester of Photography for me. Although I had my doubts at the start of the course, I managed to rekindle and even challenge myself to improve my skills. Looking back, I still follow my previous philosophy where I strive to make art that incites emotion and intrigue within the viewer and artist themselves. However, I believe that I have grown to expand this philosophy even further.

To create art is to breathe life into something that would otherwise be considered dull. A tree, landscape, or person can be mundane as is, but an artist can go beyond that. They can send a message, instill emotions, or simply awe the viewer through thoughtful composition and execution. The joy of creation is a feeling every person must experience, and an artist has the privilege of doing so on a frequent basis. Again, I may not intend on pursuing Photography in the future, but I intend on pursuing the arts in one form or another.

  1. What part of your finished portfolio did you find most successful and why?
    – I would say my Photoshop Fun was the most successful. I managed to learn and create a photo that appealed to one of my favorite pieces of media while challenging myself to delve further into Photoshop.
  2. What part of your finished portfolio did you find least successful and why?
    – I think my film photos were the least successful, because I was sick for half a week that was meant to help develop other people’s photos alongside my own, so I barely had time to create quality or even properly developed photos.
  3. If you had the time, what project would you like to redo and why?
    – I would redo my light painting photos, I felt like I rushed them and didn’t have the time to properly plan out and create a work I was proud of. Considering the complexity of using light as a subject I would need more time to plan out and execute another retake.
  4. Any last thoughts?
    – I had doubts entering this course again, but I feel like this has spawned some of the best works I have ever done. I now believe that taking this course for Grade 12 was the right choice.
