Forgiveness in Families
When the need for attention leads to sibling jealousy, all goes wrong. Forgiveness in Families is a short story written by Alice Munro. Val has always struggled getting attention from her mother since her brother Cam was born. Due to this lack of attention from her mom, there has been a sibling rivalry that has been developed also a bit of jealousy. Jealously not only happens in movies and novels, it also appears in everyday life. All siblings want more attention than the other. For instance Val’s first day of school her mom wasn’t there because Cam was being born. All the other students’ parents were there except Val’s mother. From when Cam was born all the attention right away went to Cam. Another example to show jealously was when the mother was sick and Cam and his friends did the healing dance. Val thought it was dumb their dance. When the mom got better she stated that the only reason that was better was because of Cam. On day when it should have been all about Val it ended up being about Cam. Val’s wedding day was going great until Cam threw up on the cake. When jealousy ends, rivalry doesn’t.
