This week in Math 10, I learned something completely new to me which is negative exponents. With negative exponents, I learned that there are 2 things that a negative exponent indicates. Firstly, whenever there is a negative exponents, the answer will always be a fraction. Secondly, whenever there is a negative exponent that also means that you are going to have to reciprocate the fraction to find the reciprocal. For example, the reciprocal is essentially when you flip the numerator and the denominator around so for example your answer would go from to because you reciprocated the fraction. I also learned that with whatever side of the fraction the negative exponent is on, you will always flip if even if it is in the denominator position, which will make the exponent positive.
Here are the following steps to evaluate the equation to show my understanding:
1, Add the exponents due to the Product Law which states that went you are multiplying like bases, you add the exponents so therefore the answer is .
2. Turn the power into a fraction.
3. Reciprocate the fraction which will eliminate the negative exponent and turn it into a positive exponent.
4. Solve the equation. = 343.
