What are the fastest, easiest and most impactful ways to prevent global warming?
Global warming is everywhere in the world. We must be able to adapt to global warming because it is impossible to completely stop global warming in its tracks. Global warming is still in debate and there is still a lot of uncertainty that global warming is real and occurring in our everyday lives. If we do not move quickly to slow down global warming, then future generations could be facing some major consequences.
What is global warming?
People tend to think that climate change and global warming apply to the same phenomena, but they are two different things. Global warming is the gradual increase in the Earth’s average atmospheric temperature. Climate change refers to changes in the Earth’s weather over time.
What are the causes of global warming?
The greenhouse effect is the main cause for global warming. The greenhouse effect is a phenomenon through which gases that are present in the atmosphere absorb heat. Natural greenhouse gases include water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, and ozone which are all essential to support life. All these gases let in sunlight, but they tend to insulate the Earth against the loss of heat. A higher concentration of the greenhouse gases means a warmer climate. The second cause for global warming is humans. Some scientists say that humans are the primary cause for global warming because of all the carbon we release into the atmosphere by choosing to extract and burn coal, oil and gas, or by burning down forests and cutting down trees. There are also millions of cars that release gas into the atmosphere day after day, also because of humans. The meat industries and meat farmers have caused 18% of the emitted greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. Eating less meat a weak helps also helps the environment.
What are the effects of global warming?
Global average annual temperatures have increased by an extreme rate since the late nineteenth century. Temperatures are supposedly to increase by around 4.5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of this century. Coastal areas could be facing severe flooding issues because of rising sea levels. Low-lying islands would most likely become uninhabitable. The sea level has risen around four to eight inches across the world. Sea levels will also be expected to rise by in between 8 to 20 inches. A lot of glaciers are melting and global warming is the reason. There are many more consequences that can happen, not just rising sea levels. More hurricanes will occur with warmer oceans and if it keeps getting warmer, certain regions should be expecting to have multiple heatwaves, droughts and many wildfires. Because of wildfires and deforestation, some animals are scrambling to find a safe habitat and environment to live in. It is even possible for some animals to become extinct in the future. For future generations, the world could possibly become uninhabitable if we continue to keep polluting our atmosphere with greenhouse gases and keep destroying our world.
What are the fastest, easiest and most impactful ways to prevent global warming?
Now to answer the question, we cannot completely stop global warming but we can definitely prevent it from getting really bad. My solution would be to have everybody drive electrical cars because over the majority of the cars we have today are operated with fossil fuels and then the fossil fuels get released into the atmosphere. Another part to my solution would be to stop all factories from burning fossil fuels. If everybody could also do the small and simple things like using public transit, winterize your home (Prevent heat from escaping through windows and doors), use cold water to wash clothes and hang your clothes to dry, unplug any electronics that are not being used and use energy efficient light bulbs and appliances, then global warming would start to slow down if everybody in the world did these small things, but it would not go away. Some more things that people can do to save the environment is recycle, compost, turn water off when you’re brushing your teeth, buy local foods and eat less meat (farming is 18% of the greenhouse gases that are emitted into our atmosphere), don’t waste food. All of us humans could be doing these small and simple things and if all of us where doing this then global warming would start to slow down and future generations might not have many problems in the future.

Information Fluency Reflection
- I had to research many questions for my scientific wonder project. I asked what is global warming, what are the causes of global warming, what are the effects of global warming and finally, what are the fastest, easiest and most impactful ways to prevent global warming.
- I used edublogs to publish my post, and I acquired all of my information from Gale engage learning (Science in Context). I also used creative commons to get my picture and youtube to get my video on how to prevent global warming.
- My first step in this process was to acquire information and do research about all the questions I have and then I analyzed key points to elaborate on and then add to my post. I proofread my project after I was done to make sure there was no spelling errors and that I had all my information in my post. Then I proceeded to publish my post.
- I cited all my information using the citation tools on Gale engage learning. I verified my information by checking multiple articles so not just one article about global warming but multiple to get accurate information.
- The process of completing this challenge was a bit challenging because I had to use a lot of different articles, or academic journals to get my research. The research was more time consuming then I thought it would be and it was definitely not a walk in the park. I think I could’ve elaborated my question some more but overall I think my project was informational and useful for people that think global warming is not real and occurring every single day. In the end, I hope my research pays out and I get a good mark.
I thought Jon’s project was very interesting. There were a lot of information on the topic. I thought the information of ways to prevent global warming was very useful.
Global warming and climate change are coming fast. more people need to talk and write about this. Good 🙂
The above research on global warming was informative. Global warming is a big problem we are all facing , the weather for example gets stranger and more extreme every year. I was aware of composting and recycling but never thought about skipping meat some days.Good idea, thank you!
Your writing and citation organization is strong.
I love how you took us through your thinking and learning process with this post. What a thorough look into the question as to what are the most efficient ways to prevent global warming. I appreciate how you have successfully asked and answered good questions and acquired and analyzed key information that reveals an understanding of global warming. Excellent work citing your sources. One thought is considering the amount of methane gas that is released through the meat and diary industry. Methane is said to be a powerful in climate change.
