The Atkins diet is one of the best-known low-carbs diets. if you fill your day with processed carbs like white bread, pasta, and white potatoes, and you don’t eat many fruits and veggies, then this diet may be the jump start for your weight lose. The nutritional backing of the Atkins Diet is split into 4 different phases. Phase 1 is the Induction, under 20 grams of carbs per day for 2 weeks. Eat high-fat, high-protein, with low-carbs vegetables like leafy greens. This kick-starts the weight loss. Phase 2 is the Balancing, slowly add more nuts, low-carbs vegetables and small amounts of fruit back to your diet. Phase 3 is Fine-Tuning, when you are very close to your goal weight, add more carbs to your diet until weight loss slows down. Phase 4 is the maintenance, here you can eat as many healthy carbs as your body can tolerate without regaining weight. The Atkins diet is really called the Atkins nutritional approach. it was the brainchild of the doctor named Robert Atkins. He had gained a lot of weight in medical school. Atkins read about low-carbs diet in one of his medical journals. He built on that diet and eventually made it popular. The limitations of the Atkins Diet is its very restrictive in nature, the diet condones high consumption of saturated fats, this diet can cause bad breath, nausea headaches (particularly in the initial period), the diet, by default, cuts out many valuable nutrients Another disadvantage is that this diet relies heavily upon proteins from meat, fish and dairy products. It is therefore a no-go area for vegetarians. There are also concerns about the effect of such high levels of protein and fat upon vital organs such as the heart and the kidneys. The long term benefits for the diet is the pounds may fall off in the first few months but the Atkins Diet does not help people lose weight in the long term and it may be dangerous, according to a scientific review of research. in the short term the diet is producing a weight loss and its not just fluid loss- there is a loss fat. I think that this diet would be good for me because its high in protein and since i played sports it could really help me a lot and protein before playing sports helps your body stores that support muscle repair when the physical activity is over and it can provide a supply of protein to meet your body needs as it increases protein synthesis after the sporting event.
