Letter From Home

Dear Mathias,

I wish you were here, so I could tell you this face to face. Things are looking bright for us women, I am now working to help you in the war effort by making shells and guns to help win this war and get you home as quickly as possible. There is talk that we women may soon get the right to vote as well, finally! Things are changing here in Canada and seemingly for the better, while these things are good some things aren’t so good. While we women have jobs the pay is still lower than anything the men were payed and I am working hard to feed our children. I have chosen not to buy war bonds as I believe I can help you out in the war through making shells, that and we need the money now instead of later. Even with production at such a high we are being payed even less and this is making it hard on all of us. The Canadian Government has also established the War Measures Act giving them more freedom to do what is necessary as they put it. Meanwhile they are taking away some of our basic rights and freedoms. They are even sending Austro-Hungarians and Germans to internment camps just because they might be a threat, even though they haven’t done anything. The government is also using propaganda now to get more troops to enlist, I take it from this that the war isn’t going so well. Many of our good friends are going to war now aswell, Ms. Keaton’s son is even going to fight. Even with all that’s going on I will continue to support you and our other brave men but all I want is for you to get back home safely.

See you soon,

Your loving wife

Canada’s role in International Conflicts

To be completely honest I don’t know that much about our role in historical conflicts. With that being said I know that we claimed victory in the fight for Vimy ridge in WW1. This gave us as Canadians a reputation as courageous and strong fighter willing to fight for what we believed in. This is the only major battle I know we were apart of while we were in both WW1 and WW2 I haven’t heard of any other major battles that we Canadians have fought in.
