*Spoken Word:  Brainstorming activitiy

Warm up spoken word free write activity:  Practice writing with imagery that includes all five senses.  Students describe an abstract or intangible entity using all senses:  what do they look, sound, smell, taste and feel like?

Examples:  Choose 2 of the following examples and write for five minutes each using imagery/sensory language.

a. homesickness

b. grief

c. love

d. joy

e. emptiness

f.  time

g. envy

Good Morning!

* Synthesis Essays:

A few reminders:

  1.  Make sure you give your essay its own title…
  2. Do you have a hook
  3. Did you introduce your titles/authors?
  4. Do you have a strong thesis statement
  5. Do you have 5 paragraphs: intro, 3 bodies, and a conclusion
  6. Does each body have a topic sentence?
  7. Do your body paragraphs discuss your resources –giving a point, giving evidence (quote),  stating significance –and then citing your quote?
  8. Do you have a conclusion?  This should restate your thesis but now state how you have proven your thesis….
  9. Are you using transitional expressions?
  10. Are you using third person voice?
