*Today we are doing our Socratic Literature Circle Discussions.  You will be doing your Lit circle discussion in front of the class this time, and the class is able to ask questions about your novel and your roles when you are done…this may take most of the class…..

*Silent Reading

*No Red Ink:  Commonly Confused Words IV and Punctuating with Conjunctions

*We were going to do Socratic Literature Circles Today.  To give you more time to prepare post long weekend, we will do these starting on Wednesday May 22nd. After No Red Ink you may work on one of the following two ongoing assignments:

1) Socratic Literature Circles:  prepare your roles

2)  Friday Writes:  This is due on Friday May 24th, 2019

a)  One good copy

b) Five drafts

c)  Reflection/checklist

Good Afternoon!

*We will continue to read our novel “Takedown”.

Our new novel:  “Of Mice and Men”.  This will not be a read aloud.  This will be a ‘Novel Study’…so you will have work, assignments and a test.

Chapter 1: 

-Give students a piece of blank paper.  Read aloud Chapter 1

-Students are to listen to the description of the setting and try to picture what the setting of the novel may be like.  They are to draw a rough sketch of what they have imagined. 

-Steinbeck uses different techniques in his writing/descriptions –comparison (simile, metaphor, personification etc) detail, and appealing to the senses.

Good Morning!

*Friday Writes…but not a write.  Today you will start to go over all your previous writes to ensure they are complete.  In addition, you will be making sure your best composition is a solid piece of writing.

  1.  Peer edit:  someone in the class will be reading through your best composition to give you feedback.

2.  Start to get your portfolio organized and complete the following checklist and reflection.
