Float Your Boat

CHALLENGE

We were challenged by Ms. Kim to build a boat or a raft that can carry as much pennies as possible ONLY by using the following materials:

In this challenge, each group (3-4) were given:
– Aluminium Foil (15cm x 20cm)
– Piece of Masking Tape (15cm)
– 2 Toothpicks
– 2 Marshmallows

Our boat “S.S Drown” had sunk when I had put 41 pennies.

HYPOTHESIS

If our boat would have a higher wall/ boarder around the edges and a wide base then our boat can carry more pennies because the water wont be able in easily.

CONCLUSION

We found out that the wining team and the second team had most amount of pennies because the winning team’s boat had a tall wall and a circular shape, while the second team had a wide base and a short wall. Our hypothesis was supported because the most group had the most pennies because the wall of their boat was high and the with is wide. Possible errors that we had are when putting the coin in different speed and height which pushes the boat down ward in contact and hole on the aluminium foil which is causes the water to leak in.
