In this picture, it shows multiple ads for ovens. It shows how it’s ‘easy’ to use, and how it’s so ‘useful’. In the picture, there are also two woman there being happy and pretending to use the oven. They are shown wearing like a apron skirt or something, so I think it means its stereotyping that people still expect them to cook and take care of the house, because there are no men in the picture.

An inquiry question this could possibly work for is…

What were the jobs/roles of women after the war?

Letter To/From the Front

Dear Beth,

My beautiful sugar cube, I miss you a lot. Guess what? Today I almost got shot. As I flew in my plane, someone else took their aim. High up in the sky we go, seeing all the soldiers die down low. As I glide over the soft blue sky, the cool breeze brushed by me. Just then, he takes his shot, then we fought, until I got behind him and… down, down, down he went, yelling in his German accent. Till his plane hit the ground, and the man was nowhere to be found.

Soaring through the sky, fighting other guys. Sometimes dropping nails, hit some but most fails. The ones that do make it, turn people into kebabs. Oh how fun it is to be a pilot, being as noble as the colour violet. Flying planes with honour, and soon becoming goners. The reality of it can never be unseen. It is not as great as we think.

Now let me tell you about the trenches. What we go through, to pay for your expenses. Feels like you’re inside the earth. We dig the land, all by hand, then pile them up with bags of sand. Working like a beaver, hunting like a lion. Spending days here, some over there, just as long as you don’t die in the warfare. Try and pass through no man’s land, then repeat, and do it all over again. Getting lice isn’t always nice. We sit in a circle with the guys and have a chat, don’t be too scared if you see a rat.

There’s not much to do in the daytime sometimes; just wait around for lunchtime. We wake up early to watch for the enemy. As the days go by, we go to attack. Green-ish gas then appears, our greatest fear. We quickly put on our masks. Some men fall to the ground, and that’s the last time we see them around. Running on the rough earth, hearing gunshots and bombs fly on every side, have a feeling that your about to die.

If I don’t make it back, just know I think about you every day to every night, dreaming about you even in the moonlight. Before I sleep I look up to the night sky and think about how you are, my twinkle, twinkle, little star.

Summary

What if the guy who shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie, missed, and they never had been assassinated?

Basically a lot of things we know today wouldn’t have happened if there wasn’t a WW1, or the things would have just been delayed.

For example, WW2 may not have happened, and without millions of deaths the countries would probably put more resources into building their economies.

“The United States would have remained more isolated, less intertwined with the rest of the world, and also less tolerant of the rights of women, blacks, Jews and other minority groups.”

Also without the War, their probably wouldn’t have been much technology advancements, like nuclear weapons, computers, nor the internet.

Antibiotics would probably be delayed, and there would not be information about revolutions.

Lebow said in an interview; “In the United States, maybe the best thing about the second half of the 20th century was development of tolerance. The U.S. before 1945 was a pretty backward and racist place.”

There are many ‘what-if’s’, but we may not know for certain what would’ve happened, if the war never happened, because it happened. But they would probably still have a war somehow, because of the countries increasing in weaponry, wanting more resources, etc.

Reflection

This website answered my question pretty well. It explained many things I was also wondering. I could go further with this question, and figure out more details, and find out more things that would not have happened. I could also go with a different question, because this one can never be answered fully. I might just revise the question a bit and see if it can go further on.

There are many things to be thankful for in 2019.

I am grateful for the people around me. Whether that be family, friends, classmates, etc. Also the people who try and make the world a better place, like certain famous people, scientists, doctors, etc.

Another thing I am thankful for is that we live in a mostly safe country. Where there is no big wars going on.

Also the internet. It may not be entirely great, but it helped me research stuff for school, text with friends, youtube, music, reading, and just a chill place.

In this image, my concern is about the environment. This image was taken somewhere between the drive from Kelowna to Poco, and it shows green trees on the right, on the left, behind, but no trees near the middle. Originally, I would think this place used to be full of trees. maybe a forest fire, or people just cut down trees? Whatever it is, there is just a blank piece of land now. In the bottom right, you can see something that looks like garbage. This image is a problem considering littering, deforestation, and pollution. With that land, you can plant more trees, make a farm, or maybe create more housing. I would plant more trees because there is nothing there right now, and it would be a good use. If you look at it for a while, you can sort of see the faint sun ray shining across the trees. My thinking behind the composition is how you can just see this piece of land spread across the picture.

What I learned from Visual Literacy is that if you don’t have the whole picture, you can’t see the whole story. People can also be manipulated by images and news these days, and the media is just brainwashing us all. There are many problems on Earth, but we are so focused on only seeing half the photo, we don’t know fully what’s going on. We only believe and know what the photographer took. Or at least this applies to most people. We should learn to see past the photo and news, and learn to see from different, new perspectives. What does the people/animals in the photo see, what does the photographer shows us, what they don’t show us, and why they show us.

We should all learn to be more aware of the Earth, and take better care of it. There are many people on Earth, which means we need trees. People in the community and the government should see how much better the community could be without littering, polluting our air, and using land more wisely. It is the land we all have, and we should take care of it.

Flag Pole Lab Math 10 2019

Flag Pole Lab

For the lab today in math, we had to find out the height of the flagpole. We first measured the height of the person from eye level. My partner was Ben and it was 151cm.

Later, we stood far away and measured the angle. He was holding the thingy and I had to see what angle it was at. It was hard because the string did not stay still, but I managed to see it and it was 44º.

After we measured the angle then we had to measure the distance from us to the flag pole. We used 2 things to measure it. A tape measurer, and the rolling thing. For the tape measurer we got 28ft 5 inches which was 8m 66cm. And from the other thing we got 8m 55cm so it was close.

And after some math we got like over 9m for the measurement of the flag pole.

Trigonometry can be used when you cannot measure with Pythagorus Theorem or when you can’t measure what ever it is, but as long as you have a side and an angle you can find anything.

There are also ones that are like 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3… and stuff.

What are countable infinities? What are non countable infinities?

Countable is what you can count like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8…

Non countable is like 1, 1.1, 1.01, 1.001, 1.0001, 1.00001… like stuff you can’t count.

What questions do you still have about infinity?

Fractured Poetry Bk A

Sentence: It sits there beside my house and everyday I see it.

Phrase: All it does is sleep.

3 Words: It sits there.

I think these are verbs because ‘sit’ is a verb, so is ‘see’, and ‘sleep’. I chose these words because it describes the rock and me but mostly the rock. Maybe not physically like how it looks like but what it does. I chose ‘it sits there’ because I think it matches the rock perfectly and it really just sits there. For my phrase I say that it is sleeping because the rock sleeps all day and night and eternity. The sentence goes in a little bit of detail that the rock lives beside my house and just stays there. Another thing I found thats similar is how the rock just does its own thing and no one knows what is i doing. It seems like it has no meaning in the galaxy, but really it can be very useful. Sort of like expecting nothing from it at first and then learning what it actually does. What I learned from this was objects or anything really, can be viewed in many ways. A short story, poem, all describing it using words that go along.

though it just sits there dreaming,
