Tech Team Year End Reflection

Describe your project. What did you do? How did you do it?

Our project was streaming school events (mainly spoken word). We have recently created an tutorial on how to stream using the school equipment.

What problems did you run into? Were you able to solve these challenges? How did you solve these challenges? Is there anything you would do differently?

We ran into the problem of not having all the right equipment to stream. We had to figure out what the cable was so we could replace it. Now that we have created a stream tutorial, there is also a checklist of all the equipment so we can prepare before hand. We also have to make sure we start charging the camera well before the event starts.

What did you learn? Were you able to learn new skills or strengthen previous ones?

Personally, I learned a lot about the audio mixer and general things in the booth.  I also am more confident about streaming now that I have experienced streaming on my own.

Impact: How might your project positively impact the social and emotional well being of students/our school? What can be done to increase the impact of this idea on the school?

I believe streaming has a great impact on our school. My own teachers have complimented the convenience of the stream. I see my peers watching the archived spoken word streams because they missed it originally. The Winter 2019 spoken word stream has even accumulated over one thousand views now.

Desirability: What could you change to make your project more desirable to students, teachers, administrators, parents or the community?

The main complaint I hear from teachers and students is about the quality. I know this is a tricky problem to fix unless we were to get a new camera or lens. However, if there was a way to bring the camera closer to the stage, that would help the quality a lot.

Integratability: What would you change to make this idea easier to integrate into a school setting?

It would be great if we could advertise the stream more. There are still a lot of people that don’t know if or when there will be a stream. If we could coordinate with the social media team to advertise the stream, it could help a ton. This may be possible next year if we use Microsoft Teams. Advertising would only work if we knew what we were streaming much in advance.

Feasibility: Looking back what would you change what would you keep?

Besides the other changes that I’ve previously mentioned, I think the stream has been working quite well. We just need to keep doing what we are doing, but do it even more.

What did you learn from being a part of this project?

I learned a lot about professionalism and problem solving in a calm and collected manner.
