Define:

In science 9 class, Mr. Horton assigned us groups and asked us to make a hypothesis of which detergents work the best and if it is worth it or not. There were 4 different detergents given: Woolite, Sunlight, Tide, and Ultra-fresh. Our group used a coffee stained cotton to figure out which detergents will work best to remove the stain. Also, if the detergents perform best in cold or hot water. The hypothesis was that the Woolite in hot water will work the best to clean the coffee stain cotton.

To gather some information and investigate, we also asked what kind of ingredients does the each detergents contain? According to the research we found out that unlike other detergents, Woolite contained ingredients like anionic surfactant and thickener which preserves the texture of clothing and removing greasy stains. All the other detergents had similar ingredients of removing stains like sodium carbonate, sodium chloride, and sodium dodecylbenzene surfactant.

Deliver:

As the result, all the detergents in hot water performed better than in cold water. Ultra-scent in hot water worked the best and the tide in hot water worked the second best. Therefore, Ultra-scent is worth it.

Debrief:

I think the experiment had been improved if one person have added 5 drops of each detergents to make the amount more accurate and equal. Also, we only tested the coffee stained on cotton so we don’t know what will happen on different material cloth and different stain. Overall the lab experiment process went through very well.
