Praise Song for the Day

Praise Song for the Day  by Elizabeth Alexander reveals the idea of people continuing with their everyday tasks, accepting what they must do because of their works now. Obama’s Inauguration brings hope and the bridge to a greater future. “I know theres something bettie down the road: (Line 21) The underlying theme of hop his present. The people of America know and wait patiently for this new greatness to take place, so they continue with their days, clinging to that thought. “A women and her son wait for the bus, a farmer considers the chaining sky, A teacher says take out your pencil, Begin.” (Line 13-15) Everyone goes about the everyday lives, accepting what they’re doing because they have this hope. Each different person has their own sense of hope related to their own lives. The people of America have had this sense of hope for a big time. “Each one of our ancestors on our tongues.” (Line 6) The black community, Chinese workers, and women have clung to hope for so long and now look to Obama for that change to take place. “In today’s sharp sparkle, this winter air, anything can be made, any sentence begun.” (Line 38-39) Our world and society has changed so much into a smart world,, that with his new beginning taking place, the new smart ideas and standards will change and bring greatness. Obamas seat at presidency was the great change everyone was hoping for. And that is how the title, Praise Song for the Day, came into place, because this day and moment in history needs to be honoured, remembered and celebrated.
