For my interview I chose Debbie Phillips, she is a dental assistant and is a role model in my life. I like to look up to her because she is a strong independent women who chooses to have a lot of responsibilities, which include dealing with her jobs and personal life. My mother also works in the dental industry and it’s always been something that interests me. By interviewing Mrs. Phillips, I now know more about the qualifications and responsibilities that come with this job. I think it’s really awesome how the women at her office work together,  have a strong connection and take great care of their patients

Why are you passionate about your job?

-I love my job because of how the women work as a team in our office.  We work together and help each other out as needed.  My Boss is easy to talk to and I know she cares about the patients and we are giving them excellent dental work.

What obstacles have you faced to get to where you are today? 

-I have been pretty lucky I graduated from my CDA program from Douglas College in 1994 and I worked one office till 2008 when I went on Maternity leave with my third child.   I picked the profession I did because I wanted to find a job that was close to home and I have been very lucky to be able to work 15 min by car from my job.  The job I am at now is in New Westminster so no very far from home.  I took the program in 1993/1994 and I got a job 1 month after I graduated.

What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?

-My advice would be to find a job you enjoy as you are at work more than at home and find a place where you enjoy the people and they are kind and hard working.

Can you give a few examples of the tasks, functions and responsibilities of your job?

-My tasks at work are assisting the dentist with all dental procedures such as fillings on teeth, Root canal Treatments, Crowns and bridges, children’s cleanings and surgeries.  Cleaning up all areas and disposing of hazardous material.

What qualifications do you need to have in order to work in your position?

-I went to Douglas College in New Westminster and took the CDA program and then a few years after I graduated I took the Prosthodontist Course so I am able to fabricate temp crowns and bridges and cement them in the mouth.
