#3- BELL Project

Here’s a creative thinking challenge for you > WHAT COMES IN THREES?

example:  three blind mice come in threes.

see no evil, speak no evil, and hear no evil comes in threes.

  1. You are to brainstorm 10 different “sets of three”.  Write down your 10 ideas in your sketchbook.

One of these ideas will become your next project:

DESIGN A SET OF THREE BELLS.  A “set” means that each is different, yet belongs together.

2. Draw your design of three bells in your sketchbook.  Add colour so that your finished design is colourful.

Be sure that your bell cavity is large enough to produce a good sound.  Your designs should also provide a way to hold each bell to ring it.

3. Build your first bell out of clay.  Use a pinch pot as the bell form.  Add to the pot to give sculptural design and elaboration. Be sure to scratch, slip, and blend every clay part that you add so that nothing falls off when it is dry.  Keep it covered in plastic so that it does not dry out.

BE SURE THAT YOUR BELL IS ATTRACTIVE FROM ALL DIRECTIONS.  Good sculpture encourages viewing from the front, back, and sides, not just the front!

Bring your sketchbook and your first bell to class on Monday/Tuesday.  I will check the structure in class before you complete to make the other two bells of the set.
