Watercolour mini assignment

Using some (or all) of those 13 different watercolour techniques you learned in the past lesson you are to invent a “monster” image…. something you might find under your bed (;).   Here’s what Maurice Sendak imagined:Wild_Things_Parade and here’s “The Janitor” by Christian:2011-03-14(80571)_JANITOR1

  1. Start in your sketchbook and draft your idea with pencil.  Add details. Change it to make it interesting and intriguing.  Give it an active position.  Make it doing something.  Is it holding a prop?  What is it wearing? Give it a background – a place where it is menacing about.
  2.  Once you’ve got your image well developed you can get a piece of watercolour paper and draw it with pencil.  Be sure that your composition fills the page.  Keep your pencil very light so that it doesn’t show through the watercolour paint.
  3. Use a waterproof fineliner to outline your monster character.
  4. Now watercolour paint it and the background.  Be sure to use a wide variety of techniques – really show off your watercolour knowledge and abilities.
  5. Fill the background.  Check out the video showing how to paint a galaxy as a background.

Here’s a few great examples of student work:
