What is a orthographic projection? Why is it used?

An orthographic projection is a method used to Map out the dimensions of a 3 Dimensional object such as My phone. It shows, at least 3 sides. The front, right side and the top, as well as the orthographic drawing shown in 3D, only using 90 and 30 degree angles. It is used mainly to map out and add dimensions to a 3D drawing, so the builder can see and measure every angle, as well as see it in an angle of how it is supposed to look out of the paper.
