20th century conflicts in Canada

First world war (1914-1918)

Many countries were involved in this war but the main ones were USA, China, Japan, Canada, Russia, Australia, India, Italy, and South Africa. There was about 172,000 injured and 66,000 fatalities. In the beginning of August when Britain went to war it put Canada, Newfoundland and other colonies at war automatically. The wars outcome resulted with Germany’s big loss and the Victory of Great Britain and their allies. Allied troops created a peace treaty with Germany called the Treaty of Versailles. This was created to force Germany to surrender and end the war.

Second world war (1939-1945)

USA, France, Britain, Germany, Canada, Russia, Italy and Japan were the main nations involved in World War 2. On September 10th, 1939, Canada declared war on Germany. In December 7500 arrived in Britain. Canada declared war on Italy on September 10th, 1940. 1.1 million Canadians served in the Army and more than 44,000 lost thier lives. 55,000 were injured. In the outcome of World War 2 the Soviet Union Defeated Germany. Its capital, Berlin was divided into four parts.

Russian civil war (1918-1920)

Involved in this war were countries like Russian SFSR, France, United Kingdom, China, Japan, Italy, India, Canada, Australia, Poland, Czechoslovakia as well as White Movement. 22 people were injured and 14 were killed. In February 1918, Russia and Germany signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk which gave Russia’s land to Germany in exchange for Russia’s exit out of World War 1. The Soviet Union became the new Russian power.

Gulf war (1990-1991)

The countries involved were USA, Great Britain, Canada and Kuwait with the UN and Iran. When Canada decided to respond to Kuwait call it was the first war were Canada had sent women. No Canadians were killed in the battle and the UN pushed back Iraqis forced and liberated Kuwait. The tension between the Middle East and the US became drastic.

Battle of Amiens (Aug 8, 1918-Aug 11, 1918)

Over 19,000 allied soldiers were killed/injured. The Battle of Amiens was the start of the Hundred Day offensive. It was a victory of the Canadian/allied troops.
