This week we learned how to simplify rational expressions. Full disclosure to anyone looking at this blog to catch up on work and gain a wider perspective of the class (I know I have) I was sick and absent for this entire week. However, the previous week lines up with this one enough that a post is definitely possible. Still, go to another blog for reliable catchup.

First things first, the simplifying. It is fairly straightforward and will be fairly standard steps. Be sure to follow the order.

  1. Find what the lowest common denominator is (LCD)
  2. Rewrite the fractions so that they adopt the lowest common denominator, being careful to keep consistent and equal when making the change.
  3. Once the denominators are consistent add the numerators and reduce to the simplest form.
