Part 1

  • The successful aspects of Tech Team are that we can actually be of help for so many people. Even during the parent tech night, many parents came asking about whether or not they should get a Chromebook for their child. Chromebooks tend to lack in our school, so I recommended they don’t. The grade 9’s and other students who were having issues during school could come down to the library and 95% of the problems would be solved. We give the school other methods of connecting with the outside world, such as live streams and the Microsoft event.
  • The challenging aspects of Tech Team are that new problems always occur. These problems may be due to new technology, human error, etc. For example, we in the Creation Team are struggling because we were slow to start, but we had high standards for ourselves. Especially because there is no specific class time in which this course is happening, there are many times when we forget to do our work properly on time. Another challenging aspect is that we may not always be on the same page; while one member does not recommend the use of Chromebooks, one member may recommend the use. Because everybody’s opinion is different, their preferences may vary too.
  • They will need help getting used to the library. Because our renovations have finished, the Maker’s Space will be often utilized. Not many people will know how to use the Maker’s Space, meaning we will have to show the school how to use it and the many equipment related to it. I had also noticed that some teachers did not know how to resolve easy tech issues, which can be a hassle since it can hinder the learning development for the students. I believe the teachers should have a session where they learn to use some technology, such as effectively using the projector or knowing how to resolve certain issues the students may face.
  • We need to ensure we know how to operate the technology we have at hand. If a certain Tech Team member is at the Wave but the member doesn’t know how to correctly install Office 365, we have an issue. If we ensure that every Tech Team member knows simple problem solving. Since our school is a digital school, I believe that we should be more engaged and active in school life. Many aspects of life at Riverside will involve tech, but if we aren’t passionate in helping others as much as the people need it, the school won’t be receiving the full support they need.

Part 2

  • Gleneagle’s tech team has made a website that has all the necessary info for effectively using technology (WiFi, Office 365, Quizlet, etc.). Even if it’s not a website, I feel that having a similar idea in which students can attain the information necessary without having to go to the library or the Wave is very nice. They don’t need to leave and possibly interrupt the class, and the fact of solving your own problems will be much more effective than having someone else solve the problem for you. There is not much more information for schools within our district. However, there is an organization called School Tech Team that serves as an adviser for schools everywhere, supplying them with knowledge regarding the latest tech, the most suitable application for school, etc.
  • I feel that like School Tech Team, we should be the first ones to get used to the newest tech. After we determine that this is good and may be able to replace a different application of same meaning, we then show it to the administration, who can then determine whether this is of good use. Similar to the Gleneagle tech info website, I feel we could implement something like that. However, I feel that we could put an info sheet regarding WiFi, Office 365, and Edublog on a wall in all classrooms. Then, if it is a simple issue that can be resolved with the solutions written on the sheet, they would not need to go down to the Wave for a problem to be resolved in a couple of minutes.
