This is an image of Mount St. Helens erupting in 1980, this image relates to the PowerPoint on earthquakes and volcanoes because it is a very well known example of a volcanic eruption. Mount St. Helens is a composite volcano that is a part of the Cascade Mountain Range, it also sits along the Cascadia Subduction Zone, which is between the Juan de Fuca and North American plates; the boundary between the two plates is a transform boundary. The eruption was caused by a magnitude-5.1 earthquake, which caused part of the north side of the mountain to collapse and the magma in the mountain burst into a large pyroclastic flow.
