This week, I learned how to find the length of a side of a right angle triangle using an angle and another side length. Here are the steps to finding a side length using this method:
Step one is to label all the sides accordingly based on the reference angle. o,a, and h represent the opposite side, the adjacent side, and the hypotenuse.
Next, using Soh Cah Toa, figure out whether you need to use sine, cosine, or tangent. In this case, since we need to find the adjacent side, and are given the opposite side and reference angle, we use tangent.
After you have determined which of the three equations you need to use, write it out, and if x is on the bottom, the divide the side length by the tangent of the reference angle. Here, I switched x and tan43, to divide 39 by tan43.
