How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities?

Your digital footprint could affect your future opportunities in many ways, for example a college/university application. College/university admission officers will now look at your online profile. If they were to find anything immature, irresponsible or inappropriate on any of your online profiles they could instantly send you a rejection letter.

Your digital footprint could also affect a future job interview.If the employer were to find of those immature posts they could decide not to give you the job.

 

Describe at least 3 strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

1. Be kind on the internet. This is a very simple strategy that most people don’t follow, but being kind on the internet can really benefit you ion the future.

 

2. Use privacy settings. It’s a good idea to keep your media platforms private from the world. It makes your posts accessible to only people you know and not random strangers lurking on the internet.

3. Search yourself up on different search engines. If you see something you don’t like, ask the site admin to take it down.

What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them? 

I learned that your digital is actually very very important for your future, and that it should be taken seriously. I also learned that you can learn so much about one person with one search. 

I would tell them to really take the time and think about what they post or say on the internet. I would also tell them to check their digital footprint and make sure it’s clean.
