Very recently, actress Kristen Stewart stated her opinion on gender equality.  She stated to Vanity, that people should stop complaining, and start doing something about it.  Her statement started uproar and caused even more controversy towards the actress.  I chose this article because I feel like it represents the film industry and most industries in the world.  Also, I think it’s important that the article includes someone that most people know, so it can captivate their fans’ attention and spread awareness to the issue.  I believe that this article really relates to the story we were reading in class (The Friday Everything Changed), in the way that they both show how men are viewed as superior to women in a lot of industries, especially the film industry.  I think that it’s important to raise awareness to the wage gap, and gender stereotypes, and I firmly believe that it’s extremely important for celebrities to use their fame in order to spread awareness, and use their title for good, and not for bad.

I think that it is important to add that there is a huge difference between gender and sex.  By definition, sex means: Either of the two main categories (male and female) into which humans and many other living things are divided on the basis of their reproductive functions.  Gender, however, has many variations.  It’s not defined by male or female, or which reproductive organs you have.  In fact, there are over 51 genders, including agender, bigender, and gender fluid.

I hope that by now, you have a better understanding on gender equality, the wage gap, and gender stereotypes.
