Summary:
On April 19th 2016, my grade 9 science class had a google hangout with Karishma Bhagani. Karishma is a NYU student who is the founder of a project called Matone de Chiwit which is a project focusing on making and sending water filters to Kenya. The purpose of our Google Hangout was to raise awareness to the water problems in Kenya and for us to think of a way that we can help.
Questions that were Asked:
- What other people helped with this project?
- What materials did you use to make the water filter?
- What inspired you to make the water filter?
- Do you think Kenya is overlooked as a country that needs help?
What I Learned:
- She said that her family helped her with the project as well as the people she started the project with.
- Gravel, sand, charcoal, a plastic bucket and a vegetable from Kenya called a drumstick were used to create the water filter.
- The water pollution and lack of clean water in Kenya inspired Karishma to invent a water filter to help people in Kenya who don’t have access to clean water.
- She said that in her opinion most developing countries are overlooked when it comes to helping them and even though they are appreciative of the help they never receive enough help.
