In your opinion, based on the theme of this story, how has Canadian history and attitudes shaped the First People of Canada’s identity?
I feel that throughout history, Canada has done terrible things to First Nations people, including the taking of their land, reserves and the residential schools. As well as Canadian attitudes throughout history has changed, but when the French and the British came to Canada they would kill and take the First Nations people because they wanted a perfect “white” country. I think in a way this expanded the First Nations people identity because throughout all the terrible things that happened, they are still here, thriving in their reserves because they fought to keep their land. Unfortunately, most people do not see this, and when they think about the First Nations people they think of a chief with feathers or teepees.
