Key Question: What would an ethic of care towards the environment look like?
How do you personally define an ethic of care?
I would define care as the serious emotional attention toward an object or person that includes attentiveness (the act of knowing what it is), responsiveness (the act of reacting to it), competence (the act of knowing what to do), and responsibility (the act of taking action toward that object or person). It also means that each object or person has to feel the needs of each person.
What would be needed to create an ethic of care?
I think that you need attentiveness, responsiveness, competence, and responsibility.
What would we have to believe about the environment to care for it? How should we see it?
I think we need to believe that we are apart of the earth and our environment. We need to realize that we will be living on this planet for many more years and that we need to take attention toward the future of what we will do. We should see it as the environment is our home, and we need to clean and take care of that home.
How would we act if we cared about the environment? – give scenarios
We need to act in the way that we need to take attention to our actions on what we do with the environment. Such as littering, if we all littered then the plant or our environment would be filled with garbage. Or deforestation, the people who cut down the trees need to realize what they are doing to the planet, and thus need to replant those trees that have been cut.
What would be different about the world if everyone adopted this ethic of care towards the environment? Benefits and drawbacks?
The world would be way different because we obviously would take more care into the way we do several things such as recycle or where we throw our trash. Some benefits would include that our world would be more green and luscious due to the fact that nobody would be cutting down a lot of trees or nobody would be throwing trash on the ground. Some drawbacks would include that we would probably not have a lot of the factories and manufacturing going on. The use of fossil fuels would be non-existent and a lot of cars would not have been made.
Should we adopt an ethic of care towards the environment?
Yes, we should take and adopt an ethic of care toward the environment due to the fact that the world is on a slow decline toward a world full of trash and thus leading the world to not be livable. This is why many young people are making preparations and actions toward saving the planet because after the older generation dies, the younger generation will need to fix everything that the older generation had left with them.
