This week we started are exponent unit, we learned a lot but what stood out the most to me was combining all the exponent laws together to solve equations easier. M = Multiplication Law, D= Division Law, Z= Zero Exponent Law and PP (or p) = Power of a Power Law. (MDZPP) You can use this method anyway you’d like and the answer would be the same each time, but I usually go M,D,PP,Z. A lot of people do Power of a Power first but I don’t like seeing the big numbers on the paper so I leave it till the end.
This week in Math 10 we learned a lot about factors, and one of the first things we learned about was a factor tree. A factor tree is used to easily find all the factors of a smaller number usually under 200. You first have to start at 2 and see if 2 can go into that number, in this case the number was 160 so 2 can divide into 160 by dividing it by 2 to get 80, and then you find what goes into 80 and so on… once you find all the factors you can do 160= 2x2x2x2x2x5 or

Canada Day Fireworks
Stepping into the forest robbed you of one sense and heightened the others. It was disorientating to be almost blinded but given the ears of a wolf. Even the soft wind that moved the branches felt heavy in the ears. The sense of smell was sensitized, the growth in the earth and the decomposing leaves made the atmosphere close and thick. The blackness nurtured a sense of claustrophobia inside you even though the woodland stretched unbroken for what seems to be forever. The narrow path, which was made uneven by the knotted roots that crossed over. There was no map to follow, but even if there was the perpetual dark would prevent you from using it. I finally came to find my friend’s house, he had said that there was a huge firework show that happens through some thick woods. one after another my legs like jelly after been walking for 2 hours, we had found our other friend not to long after we left for the hike. The bare branches spiked into the sky – no sign of life to be found anywhere. It was so dark you were barely able to see where you were going. There were only small sounds of folk music in the distance. My friend’s flashlight was like a beacon in this grungy path. The densely-packed trees loomed high above. Each path we took it felt like the darkness drew closer to us. we kept on despite the icy wind that fluttered around us. As we came closer and closer the smell of smoky ash and a hint of marijuana filled the air around us. Finally, we had found a small hill heading up to the large crowd of maybe about 100 people. Over the hill, we went. I stood there as anxiety struck. The chilled air raced up and down my spine as I stared blankly at a large field of opaque gray smoke surrounded the hundreds of people, the smoke smelt of burning wood and just death. We joined this huge group to only push through to the other side. The constant smell of smoke coming from the cancer sticks was never ending. Every minute I felt my lungs getting constricted that I can only imagine that they would look like a plastic bag rolled into a ball. It was never ending, this large mass of all kinds of nasty felt like being in the overcrowded halls of school but being slowly being consumed in a thick musty smoke. I finally found an edge to pop out of, I slithered out a new to the sight of my friends nervously waiting for me. We found a place to set up and await the start of the fireworks. One fizzle and crackle later the fireworks had started. They explode above, vivid colours to ignite the otherwise black and dull sky. They cut through the black like they’re super imposed on the night sky, like the stars behind are only the simple backdrop for the beautiful occasion. Each one draws a pattern into the sky, something unique and breathtaking, never to be repeated exactly no matter how many are ignited and sent to their sky-bound destiny and then to fade away into ashes to only be remembered on a picture. Every streak bares a curve of sorts, brilliant lines with a living feel, organic in the way they grow in the sky. After the events they had put on the theme for “Oh Canada” and everyone got together to take a second and forget about everything and sing the Canadian national anthem, the whole thing ended at 12am and the walk back to the house was even darker and muggier then before, but with screams of laughter in the distance and about 200 people walking down this hill it felt like our own group, the night sky was indescribable, the silver moon was high in the sky giving off the only light, apart from the paths lampposts which every few where burnt out or bulb had been busted. We had gotten back to the house and said our good byes and I walked back through the forest with only the light of my phone and had gotten back to my home at 2am, I swung myself like an elephant’s trunk over the back of the couch and slowly drifted away to the dream land. In conclusion, this experience was like no other and can only be described as one of the wildest nights I’ve lived through.
