Stretch the Kitchen Lab

My unit made brownies BUT with a twist, we substituted the flower for whole wheat flour and the sugar for brown sugar, added a lot of coconut shavings and as well as a chocolate drizzle. this lab was very good and turned out absolutely delicious! Most of the team worked together very well through till the end. The best part about this lab was the finished product. Yes there was a little bit to much coconut in the brownies but I think this was the best lab that our team has done yet! And the brownies turned out just a little bit under cooked, so it was just the right amount of gooeyness inside. Our group was right on time and had time to spare with the bell to ring, we even had time for the brownies to set and cool and even put in the fridge for a little until we put the chocolate drizzle on top. The only part I regret about this lab was adding the coconut, I’m not the biggest fan of coconut, a little is fine but the coconut was a little bit overboard in the brownies. We should of had one side without the brownies, I would of liked that, but I thought of it after the lab.



11.1 Factors Influencing Data Collection

When I first read the article, I thought that it was stupid how shops are closed on every Sunday and I thought that it didn’t need to be a law.

After learning about influencing factors, I now think that the survey might be a bit bias and the timing was every long ago

in the future, when reading and interpreting survey data I will think more about what I am putting on the surveys, and I will take note on what I am putting now and picking.

Noodles at Home!

Part 1 Recipe Hunt

Breakfast: Rice Pudding
This recipe will be quick and easy, with mostly just rice, water, milk and sugar it is a great and quick breakfast for an early morning.

Lunch: Crunchy Noodle Salad
This recipe will be serve up to 6, with perfect al dente noodles, crunchy sugar snap peas, and great tasting vegetables. This is a quick and easy recipe that anyone can make. And will only take up to 30-40 minutes and with minimal prep needed.

Dinner: Bacon and Shrimp Pasta
As the name suggests this pasta is with crispy bacon and perfectly cooked shrimp along with al dente noodles, with a maximum of 25-30 minutes of cooking time and prep time this is really easy to make quickly. Plus you can add any spices you want or change the noodle type.

Part 2: Cooking!




All the ingredients from imperial to metric
(my word document wouldn’t upload to the post. if you want to see the word document I can show you)
6 slices of chopped bacon
1 pound of medium shrimp
Kosher Salt
Ground black pepper
1 tsp of crushed red pepper flakes (I used 5 ml)
2 cups of chopped tomato’s (500 ml)
3 cloves of minced garlic
1 cup of half and half cream (250 ml)
1 cup of mozzarella cheese (250 ml)
½ cup of freshly grated parmesan, plus more for garnish (125 ml)
Sliced basil for garnish
12 oz of cooked angle hair noodles (cups = 1.5 so then I converted that and it was about 375 ml)

Breakfast: Hash ‘n’ Eggs, A nice simple Scrambled eggs and a potato hash with green peppers

$3.68 in total for breakfast (not including pack of potato’s)

Lunch: Potato Skins, A lite lunch with a easy potato skins with 2 different types of cheese and bacon cooked with it

Salt and Pepper – Free
$11.18 in total for lunch

Dinner: Loaded Baked Potato’s, Easy but filling dinner with loaded potato’s with all the flavours including nice fresh green onions

Chopped green onions – Already Have
Cheese – Already Have
Dressing ( oil and vinegar ) – free
$2.99 in total for dinner

In total for the day we put together 3 dishes all under $20, in total we spent $17.85

1. Why did you choose to reflect on this lab?
I chose this lab to reflect on because I thought it was one of the more “complicated” labs that we have done because of the Alfredo sauce, by adding the milk slowly to the roux so the milk would not scorch on the bottom and then constantly having to move the milk and then when adding the bay leaf making sure that it did not break. I also chose this lab because we had more “freedom” in this lab because as a group we could decide what herbs like basil or if we wanted to add 2 bay leafs. Overall this was one of my favourite labs we have done because I actually thought it tasted amazing thinking that my group made this, and as well as I would make this at home for lunch or dinner.

2. Did you enjoy the lab?
Yes I did enjoy this lab because Fettuccine Alfredo is one of my 10 ten favourite dishes as well as I thought my group did ever well making it.

3. Did your product turn out the way you had hoped?
Yes, It did turn out better then I hoped, it was very tasty and wasn’t to heavy like a fettuccine Alfredo at a restaurant.

4. Did you group work well together during the lab?
Yes my group worked very well together because we all did equal like making the sauce, watching the pasta OR chop the parsley (because Josh really wanted to chop it) but we all chipped in to finish all the duty’s of the group and finish about 10 minutes before the bell.

5. If you were to do this lab again, what might you do differently?
I would definitely add chicken to the dish because it would add a big boost of protein factor in the dish, as well as I would of probably added more milk just to try and thicken the sauce because the sauce was just a tab bit to light for my liking.
