First People’s Principles of Learning

The first people’s principles of learning contain lots of topics including two that I have decided to talk about. The first topic I would like to talk about is that learning involves understanding the consequences of your actions. First people want their children to understand that every single thing that you do can have some type of consequence whether it be positive, neutral or negative. This principle highlights that each person must take responsibility for their actions. Being aware that we are all related we must understand that our actions can affect others or the environment. Understanding this principle in education means that teachers can help students understand that by not doing their work their consequence would be a bad grade, but by doing their work they would be rewarded by a good grade and if teachers give students some more choices in their learning they can find that the students will start to find out the way they learn best.  This relates to our current unit because when we learned about Ecosystem we can see that if we were to have something missing in a certain Ecosystem the whole system would be affected (a negative consequence). We also connect to this with our experiment because every ground has a living aspect and by doing this project we could kill an animal or plant. In our unit, we are learning how everything we do can have a consequence.

The second topic I have chosen is that learning involves generational roles and responsibilities. this principle reflects the understanding that teaching and learning is a responsibility of all members of a community. As you develop your skills and knowledge it is expected that you will then teach others. This principle is a responsibility that will end up strengthening communities. It is a learners responsibility to figure out and understand what they’re supposed to learn. This process lets learners develop understandings that apply to them personally, this promotes personal responsibility for learning. Understanding this principle in education means that teachers would understand that every child learns differently, the students job is to be responsible for their learning and the projects they do in school. This relates to our current unit because in our project we are responsible for taking care and making sure that we do well in the data collecting stage so that when it is time to share our information we understand fully what we learned. Because we all have a stronger connection to our projects we should have a deeper understanding
