Careers & Conversations Reflection

During the careers and conversations event we had I talked to Mike Whitaker, Samantha Coughlan and Ashley Impellezzere. I didn’t have the chance to talk to as many people as I would have wanted, but that was because 2 of the people I talked to I was genuinely interested in what they do so we talked more. The people I talked didn’t really  have careers that I would want for myself but it was nice to learn about the different opportunities I have in the future. I learned that sometimes you can go into university or college with a specific career goal in mind but then half way through you can discover that it’s not for you and that’s okay. I also learned that having a career that you’re passionate about is something important that you should strive for but if your passion isn’t a sustainable career you may need to compromise and find a balance between career and passion. When I talked to Ashley Impellezzere she told me about how she went to two different universities and that it doesn’t matter what university or college you go to as long as you are taking the right classes. Ashley has a very strict work schedule, she does her regular job as a teacher and then from 4-10 she coaches cheer but it’s worth if for her because coaching is her passion. I think this was a valuable experience for us to all do because it showcases all the jobs that you wouldn’t specifically think of when considering your career options.
