Prejudice
It might be seen affirmative to what you believe.
It might be seen protective against what you loathe.
That what I am talking is your prejudice.
It gets more persistence as you see only one part of events.
It sets more malevolence as though the hostility over centuries.
Nothing but dialogue can make you realize that foolishness.
Anything that is unbelievable can take you to fresh places.
So, stop shutting yourself in a narrow shell.
Though it sounds too difficult and late,
There is no limitation where you change your mindsets.
Where is initiation that you engage with new world?
No time to waste in your life.

-Composition

This poem is written by Hirohisa Tokugawa , and the theme of this poem is prejudice.
‘’Prejudice’’ is free verse poem. Its first two line has euphony since second line is composed with the words that is similar with the words in first line. In this part, the temptations of prejudice are told. In fifth line, there is a simile; ‘’as though the hostility over centuries.’’
The intention of this simile is to express how prejudice helps you to accumulate your hatred.
In forth and fifth line, how dangerous and persistent prejudice is described.
From sixth line to the end, the way to get out from prejudice and how wonderful the world from open-minded view is told. Throughout the poem, the tone is serious and talking to readers. The writer trying to warn us that we can easily have such thoughts and we sometimes don’t realize that we’re controlled by them.

-The poem analysis

The poem which attract me the most is ‘’Last ride’’. ‘’Last ride’’ is free verse poem and its poet is Andrea Holstlander. I think the biggest theme of this poem is lack of compassion in society. The poem is about the spaceship accident. In 4-6 line, writer uses simile to express the circumstance of the spaceship crash. In addition, the simile of ‘’like balloons whipped free from child’s gasp.’’ reminds something we can never take back. On 8th line, something seems like voice from newscaster is inserted to put more reality on the poem. From 10-13-line, poet becomes extremely satirical; ‘’we will run the fireworks again.’’ which is metaphor of the accident clip which is broadcasted in TV many times. From 14-19-line, bereaved families are on TV and the audience seems to have some compassion with them. However, in 22nd line, the news changes the topic from the accident to sports, quickly. Then, attention of audience is immediately changed, and the memory of accident won’t be remembered by them for such a long time. There is an ironic comparison in 23-26 line. The audience enjoys watching sports while the families is in grief. Even in title and structure of this poem has poet’s intensions. The title is ‘’Last ride’’ and it’s an ironic understatement of the accident. The whole poem looks zigzag which the boosters out of control seems like. There is a connection between this poem and farenheit451. In farenheit451, Mildred is very indifferent to others, and she won’t feel sympathy. However, in the society of farenheit451, it’s natural to be so. Both Last ride and Fahrenheit 451 satire the apathy in society, therefore, there is connection between those two literature.

Faces Looming Water Crises

Here is my article.
I chose this topic because the article revealed Tokyo where I lived was categorized as a town which has medium to high risk of water shortage, and it was unexpected. Moreover, it was expressed that water deficits are becoming serious issue as the global warming proceeds in the article.
I like this author’s expression ‘ ‘Farmers can switch from water-intensive crops, like rice, and instead grow less-thirsty crops like millet.’’ Author uses the expression ‘Thirsty’ to describe the kind of crops which consume less water. I think the word choice made the explanation more descriptive to the reader.
This article sharpened my awareness toward the environment because the water shortage is so world-wide problem that I must care about. However, this article also clarifies that some people make the condition worse; such as, polluting water reserves by wasting garbage. This article conveys that it is significant to share the same and proper recognition among people when we cooperatively work to solve big obstacles.

Should More Gun Control Laws Be Enacted?

Here’s my article

This topic attracts my interest since I wanted to know the reason why the federal government doesn’t enforce new laws to regulate gun. Although many mass shootings have been happening in US and people claim the control of gun, there are large scale of people who protest for the regulations. Especially, I’d like to know the opinions which oppose to the gun control so that I choose this article that reveals these ideas.

‘’ Gun ownership is an American tradition older than the country itself and is protected by the Second Amendment; more gun control laws would infringe upon the right to bear arms.’’ (Con1)

This quote is humorous since their opinion that insists the right to have gun is highly based on The Second Amendment and its history. Another quotes from cons also have quotes about the amendment.

On the other hand, the opinions from pros use more number and data, such as statistics.

For the connection to my life, I found that it is important to debate things in the same perspective and conditions. Especially, when the almost all ideas are divided to 2 parts.
