Benefits of Clearcutting & Silviculture:
-Able to collect uniform crops.
-The simplest and easiest way to log trees therefore most efficient.
-Tend to be the cheapest option.
-The equipment for clearcutting is common so that it is easy to prepare tools.
-Less damage for the next generation of forest since all trees are extracted.
-The recovery of forest may be the most raid when combined with
plantation forestry techniques and fast-growing shade-intolerant species.
-May be the good way to control insect and disease to cut down all trees.
-Since almost all roots are removed, it’s become easier to ameliorate soil.
-It’s safer for worker because most or all trees are extracted.
Drawbacks of Clearcutting & Silviculture:
-Even though trees are planted after the extraction, sometimes, clearcutting is negatively perceived as being systems that fight against nature.
-Wildlife species can lose their habitat.
-Since all roots and trees are extracted, some soil expose site of erosion.
-In some field, the reestablishment of trees are very difficult.
-During the process, we can cut down the trees which is too precious for the crops; very aged trees.
-Often considered as the example of human’s destruction of nature.

-Relatively low effect on wildlife species.
-This method helps forest to build up the resistance to diseases and pests.
-Regeneration of trees is faster.
-Prevent more wildfires and minimize soil erosion by cutting down fewer trees.
Drawbacks of selective logging
-Expensive and time-consuming way.
-In some cases, regeneration from clearcutting is faster than selective logging one.
-Genetically-superior trees are extracted; they have significant role to keep forest healthy.

How sustainable is BC’s Forestry Industry?

-The long history of BC’s forestry implies us that it is quite sustainable. However, we’ve cut down primeval forest which had grown for thousands years,  and we won’t be able to restore it.  Therefore, in terms of the forestry in natural forest isn’t sustainable at all. On the other hand, forestry in artificial forests seems somewhat sustainable. Especially, in clearcutting, environment get severe damage which makes the forestry less sustainable.
