The chili cook-off was very fun to do, it was very special and different from what we usually do which I found very interesting. Starting with how we found the recipe. We wanted to do something creative, we were told that in this lab there were no limits to what we could do which we took advantage over. Instead of making a classic chili like most groups we decided to mix KD with some chili. We figured that the cheesy flavors would blend well with the slight spice of the chili. After we found the recipe we converted it into metric which didn’t take long. We started to plan what we needed and what we already had, we needed Mr. Brett to buy most of the ingredients so there wasn’t much work to do on that day. Finally the day of the cook-off was here, we grabbed all of our ingredients and immediately started working on the recipe. We came across a slight problem, our recipe said that tomatoes were not needed but our chili was becoming too dry and thick, thankfully some others groups had extra. We used the tomatoes from the other unit which added a more chili-like texture. We finished the chili and put it into the fridge by the end of class, the next day we started the KD. We got the chili from the fridge and mixed it with the KD, after mixing we sprinkled the product with some cheese and put it into the oven at 450. We then started to make the cheese braid as a side dish, we got the recipe for it and started to make the dough. When we finished making it we put it into the oven at 425. When 15 – 20 minutes passed we got the cheese braid and chili and started plating the dish. When it was our turn to present we told them who we were and what we made. We told them all the ingredients we used (tomatoes, beans, chili powder, cheese, tomato paste, onions, sweet chili pepper, and KD) and they started to eat. Sadly they forgot our unit number and called the wrong one, so we didn’t come first because of this flaw but we knew we won in our hearts so it was fine.
