Cause of WW1

  • What is the historical context that led to WWI and how can they be organized into the themes of: militarism, alliances, imperialism, nationalism (MAIN)?

The historical context is the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria Hungary.

For militarism, All the European countries are militarism, any European countries build their own armies and navies to prepare the war, and European countries train young man to support their armies.

For alliance, except armies protect, countries also find the allied protect. “At first, Bismarck had kept Germany friendly with Russia.   Kaiser Wilhelm overturned this, and concentrated instead on the Dual Alliance of 1879 between Germany and Austria-Hungary – which became the Triple Alliance (or Central Powers Alliance) when Italy joined in 1882.” “In 1907, Britain made an entente with Russia, thus forming the Triple Entente (France, Russia, Great Britain).”

For nationalism, everyone is a nationalism, and they sing songs to encourage their country, it also makes the fight between these countries, and alliance.

For militarism, “ Countries who believed that they were superior thought it was alright to conquer and rule others – particularly if they were inhabited by races they thought were inferior.” And that’s why break out the conflict.

Canada responds the war

Canadians marched and sang in the streets at the declaration of war in early August 1914. Those who opposed the war largely stayed silent. Even in Quebec, where pro-British sentiment was traditionally low, there was little apparent hostility to a voluntary war effort. In an unprecedented burst of patriotic enthusiasm, Canadians enlisted from across the country. Because pre-war Canada had a very small permanent armed force, citizen-soldiers would form most of the new Canadian Expeditionary Force. The percentage of native-born Canadians would increase throughout the war until, by 1918, more than half of the Canadian Expeditionary Force would be Canadian-born.

The war killed many people, so that help Canadian and Canada unity together, Government had intervened in the lives of Canadians to an unprecedented degree, introducing policies that would eventually mature into a fully-fledged system of social welfare.Women took a step towards equality by filling in for the men who went to war.

In the air, here were 171 Canadian air aces during the war, pilots or gunners with five or more enemy aircraft or airships destroyed.

The common theme is miss, soldiers miss their family, and they want to back to home, and they want to serve their country. They fell the war is very cruel and ruthless, carry off many people live.
