In this lab we tried out different fruits where we tried to find the fruit with the most current. In my experiment with my group we tried the following fruits: dragon fruit, orange, banana, lemon, apple and a potato. In my prediction i stated that i thought the lemon would have the most charge but it in fact came in tied second place after the dragon fruit which came in with a charge of about 0.35 and the lemon had 0.3.
The apple had a charge of 0.13
the potato had a charge of 0.15i
the orange had a charge of 0.2
the banana had a charge of 0.3
the lemon had a charge of 0.3
What i observed is that the least expected fruit had the highest charge out of all the fruits. I thought that the citrus of the orange and the lemon would make it have the highest charge but the dragon fruit in fact had the highest.
I observed that the fruits with more things in them like the lemon and dragon fruit had higher charges than just get the plain fruit like apples and potatoes so maybe having a lot of liquid in the fruit can make it have a higher charge
I observed that with the lemon the meter was moving around a lot so it was hard to get a precise result and also with the dragon fruit the two highest charged fruits.
How can we modify our experiment to improve our results?
To improve out results we could’ve tried several different ways of putting the nail and copper in the fruit such as putting them into the skin instead of the actual fruit.
What is causing electrons to flow in this experiment?
Since the fruit isn’t a battery and to get flow in a battery we must get to metals to generate the electrons in a fruit something called a conductive chemical helps the flow of the electrons in the circuit
If your bulb doesn’t glow, why not?
well electrons are negative and attracted to positive so for the electrons to flow through it they must flow from negative to positive
How can I use this in my everyday life?
you can use this experiment in your everyday life to try and discover new things like seeing how many lemons it takes to charge a phone or light a mini light bulb or even a normal light bulb. These things can help you have a better understanding of electric current.
Good work measuring all these voltages. Make sure you put in the units (volts) onto your measurements. What is it about fruit that allows electricity to be produced? Also, what other metals do you think could make this work even better?
