Currents from the kitchen

20151113_09282220151113_09170520151113_091953In our experiment we used a lemon, an orange and a potato to try and power an led light bulb.

1. A complete circuit will produce electron flow.

2. To find out if electrons are flowing, you could use a volt meter.

3. It doesn’t glow because the light blub had too high a voltage and the fruits and vegetables didn’t have enough voltage.

4. Use bigger vegetables with higher voltage or light blubs with lower voltage.

5. The zinc and the copper  or transition metals and the crocodile clips cause the electrons to flow.

6. If you were in a situation where you didn’t have enough electricity to power a lightbulb you could use this method.

7. No because, there isn’t a potato big enough to power a 60watt ligh bulb, let alone a town or a city.20151113_09335120151113_09295320151113_092155

b) Education: All the education that is required is high school.
c) My dad has 22 years of experience, working mostly in hotels.
d) Skills and attributes: You need to be someone who is willing to work hard, work long hours, odd shifts and someone who is eager.

5. What do like about your job? The creativity, the fact you get to play with your food, you get to impress people and you get to meet interesting people.

6. What don’t you like about your job? The long hours, the odd shifts and that you work weekends and holidays including Christmas.

7. How do you think this job will change in the next 5 years or so? Not much really, but I think there will be less cooking involved and more pre-packaged food.

Reflection Questions:

1. Three reasons why I would like this job:
a) You can express your creativity through food.
b) You get to travel and meet interesting people.
c) You get to impress people.

2. Three reasons why I would not like this job:
a) You work long hours, odd shifts and weekends and holidays.
b) The work is quite hard and stressful.
c) You are in your feet all day.

3. Is this a job for me? No, this isn’t a job for me. I don’t work very well under stress, I’m not comfortable on my feet all day and I wouldn’t like working weekends and holidays.

4. Explain the value of “TOKTW” in relation to your ideas about your post secondary plans? Take your kid to work day is a good opportunity to experience a real job for a day. I know know I defenitly don’t want to be a chef!

Electricity Mind map!

Hello!
Here is my electricity mind map!

My questions are:
1. What are the different types of circuits?
2. Are there different types of electricity? If so what are they?
3. What are the main uses for electricity?
4. How much electricity does the average person use per day?
5. What is the difference between volts and watts?
6. How did we discover electricity?
