British Columbia

British Columbia is one of provinces in Canada. British Columbia is 944,735 km². There are about 4.61 million in this province. 01 02 03

Located in a sub-Mediterranean zone, British Columbia boasts the mildest climate in Canada. Spring and fall can often be very warm and pleasant, especially in June 17 16  and September 24  23  21  22 . Summers are hottest in BC’s interior, particularly in the south where temperatures frequently surpass 30°C/86°F. Nearer the coast, temperatures range from 22 to 28°C/72 to 83°F 20  19 . Winters on the coast are temperate, and if snow falls it doesn’t stay long 25  26  27 .

There are lots of tourist attractions in here.

For example, Stanley Park in Vancouver. There are some beautiful totem poles 04  05 , Vancouver Aquarium07  12  13  14 , long and comfortable seawall where people are jogging or riding their bike 08  09  06 , soft beach 10 15 , and water park 11 .

Boat Making and Racing

We make our boat on August 7th, Thursday. We use a plastic bowl, a plastic plate, some rolls, some straws, some paper, and some tape to make our boats. Everyone’s boats are different. P1070691 I used a plate as the deck, cut the bowl into a long shape, and sticked the bowl under the plate. I tried to make my boat like a true ship so that it would not sink. P1070704

On Friday, August 8th, we went to the river nearby our school. After the little kids finished their race, it was our turn! I competed with other four girls in our class, and Angela P1070736 won the champion! I was second, and Maggie P1070708 is third! P1070727  P1070729 P1070735  P1070746 P1070748

Holidays

I went downtown on Sunday, Aug 3th. There was a great event at Robson Street called Pride Parade. There were lots of people. The streets, stores and cars were colorful. Many people dressed up funny. Some were also naked! Although it was hot at noon, everyone was enthusiastic and crazy. I thought it was the most awesome parade I’ve ever joined! I hope I could join the parade next year. 06  0501  02  0708 03  04

August 4th was BC Day. It was a holiday, so we didn’t have to go to school. BC Day is to recognize the pioneers in the province. Statutory holidays, Provincial and territorial holidays and Civic holidays are some Canada important holidays.

Dragon Boat Festival, Mid- Autumn Festival and Double Tenth Festival are the important holidays in Taiwan. We have dragon boat race and we eat rice dumplings on Dragon Boat Festival. 10 11  12 Double Tenth Festival is our national day on October 10th. There are fireworks launched more than a hour at night on Double Tenth Festival. 14 13 I love Mid- Autumn Festival the most because we will have barbecue with our family. We eat mooncakes and pomelo, wear the pomelo peel on our head, and enjoy the beautiful night and full moon together. 01  02  03
