How Does One Help A Child In Times Of Hardship?

In the poem, “What Do You Remember Of The Evacuation,” by Joy Kogawa, a little six-year-old Japanese girl is taken away in British Columbia during the Second World War with her family on a train to evacuation camps . Her parents do not tell her where they are going because it would frighten the girl. Instead, they let the girl think that it is a vacation they are about to take. Although her parents did not tell her anything, she hears from other people they had to leave everything behind including pets for this trip. Teachers from her town give her games and puzzles for the train ride. While they are going through the mountains, her imagination envisions a giant, and her mother tells her that she believes that the giant is there for the little girl’s comfort. Even when the war was over, and she returned to Canadian society, she was still mistreated by other Canadian children because the Canadian children thought that the Japanese were bad people.
This poem shows one can help a child cope with hardship in a couple of different ways. One way is by telling them they are about to embark on an adventure rather than telling the truth about the atrocities that are really occurring. In the poem, the young girl states“ Although I was so excited I still couldn’t sleep.”(line 8) She also says “Careful my parents were not to bruise us with bitterness.” (line 30) Another way you can help a child cope with difficult circumstances is by distracting them with games. Before the girl left for her adventure, there were two ladies “Who gave me a puzzle to play with on the train.” These were two ways this child managed to cope with the hardship of being sent to the evacuation camps in British Columbia during World War II. One can help a child in times of hardship by distracting them from what is going on around them.

I did awesome on nothing.

I need to improve on clarity of writing and style, critical thinking, use of enhancements, mechanics quotes in MLA format citations, organization and quality of quotes.
