Is Death Penalty A Way To Peace?
Although this society is now able to punish criminals in various forms, such as fines and prison sentences, sometimes we refer to capital punishment when we see people committing serious crimes so severe that no amount of punishment can be forgiven. In fact, in the past, many criminals were executed, but now the death penalty has been abolished except in a few countries. I was confused by myself if death penalty is allowed, would the society be peaceful? In that sense, I chose the article, “Should the Death Penalty Be Allowed?”, written on July 26th,2019, deals with the pros and cons of reviving the abolished death penalty. In the pros’ side, they say death penalty is an important tool for preserving law and order, deters crime, and costs less than life imprisonment. However, in the cons’ side, they say death penalty has no deterrent effect on crime, wrongly gives governments the power to take human life, and perpetuates social injustices. In my opinion about this controversy after reading the article is to stand with the cons. Pros argue that “an eye for an eye” honors the victim, and I think if the society allows death penalty for the same purpose of them, it will not be a punishment, will be just a retaliatory.
