Lit Circles Section 3 & Characterization

Hi everyone,

Here is the schedule for this week.  Let me know if you have any input as to how to achieve your learning goals.  One thing I have learned from the last couple weeks, is that some of you have trouble scheduling your time.  If you miss a discussion, without letting your group or myself know, you have the chance to join another group later in the day.  If you miss the meeting, join another block.

This schedule is subject to change.  Report cards come out this week, there is still ample opportunity to improve.

Section 3.  As discussed in your lit circle groups, we encountered the initiating incident when Rowdy throws the Geometry book at Mr. P, his decrepit teacher, he is required to start off on a new path, to Reardon. How will Junior fit in?  How will Rowdy react?  How is he going to get to school 22 miles each way?

Reading Section 3: Rowdy Sings the Blues-Hallowe’en.  I have redone the page numbers on a new schedule on my blog.  Your group is able to move along faster, please send me your reading and discussion schedule for approval first.

Rotate the roles, make sure you understand what to do before you read.  I am overall quite impressed with the quality and content of all of your work, thank you for posting on the shared document.

If you finish reading early, please go to No Red Ink to finish up past units.  If you are amazing at grammar, please be reading.  I have been collecting some excellent pdf versions that I will share.

This week’s literary focus is….Characterization!  How do we come to understand a character in a story?

I will post these on teams, after you fill out your literary element reading log, you will be writing a character sketch paragraph this week, as well as your role. You may choose any character to analyze.

Lit Circle discussions.  Please talk to your group and decide upon a time, during class time, or if outside, check with me to see if I’m available.  The discussions I’m hearing are starting to be great!  Keep it up!
