Digital Footprint

1) How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give two examples.

It can affect you when you want to apply for universities because they will want to know more about you and what type of person you are. If they find something bad that you posted or that you said and they will use that against you and not accept you for that reason. Also when you apply for a job they will search you up and see what comes up and maybe what others say about you and they will make a decision based on that. They will want to know if you’re the right person for this job.

2) Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

First thing is to have private social media accounts so therefore whenever you search your name up on Google your social media or other information that you’ve posted won’t come up. Second thing is to think about what you’re posting before you post it. This is helpful because if you post or send something that is bad then people will have this image of you in their minds that is either wrong or bad. The third thing is that you should be careful about what you search on the internet because it can be traced back 90 days and even though that might not seem like a long time it still is.

3) What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?

The information that I have learned is that even though it doesn’t seem like your phone is tracking your location or tracking what you’re searching or receiving, it still is. Your phone or laptop is tracking basically every move you make whenever you open it. I would ask them if they know that their phone tracks where they’re located and from what time they’ve been there and then I’d show them how they can see it.
