3D Art 10

Feb 1st 2022

In 3D Arts 10, I hope to learn how to work with different materials and make interesting art pieces I can share or gift to the people I love.

I will sometimes make small things using oven bake clay and I have worked a little with ceramics in the past so I am very interested to learn more about how to use ceramics and other materials!

Feb 7 + 14th 2022

The past two weeks I began work on my test coil pot as well as my inquiry project.

For my inquiry project, I will be making a magic item for D&D 5e including it’s own lore and recipe, and then make two of my own in real life. I began work on the description, and hope to get the basic lore done by the end of this week.

For my test coil pot, I came up with test design and got the first base layer done before other projects got in the way,
however I learned my lesson for not wrapping my project in a damp paper town as when I checked on it today it was completely dried out, so I hope to get my new one at least a third of the way done this week.

The past while I’ve been working on my second attempt at my coil pot, and although it definitely has an ugly side and pretty side, I’m still happy with how it looks. It’s almost done and just needs to be glazed to make it look all shiny and pretty. Besides that, I’ve finished the lore behind my passion project, Pandora’s Jar, and just need to get the recipes done this week so that I can start actually making two of the jars.

This makes my goals for this week pretty clear; Glaze and document my coil pot and make the Pandora’s Jars recipes.

Last week I finished my coil pot and continued making recipes for my inquiry. My goal for this week is to get at least 4 of the remaining recipes done and come up with the design for my monster mug.

April 1st 2022

During the weeks before and after Spring break, I created my monster mug and finished baking it with it’s first coat of underglaze. It has a small leak but hopefully that will be sealed by the top glaze at the end which will be done next week as some touch ups needed to be done for it’s colour.

April 11th 2022

Last week I finally finished my dragon mug as seen above, also continued to work on my passion project, Pandora’s Jar. The most difficult part of creating this mug was piecing it together and trying to make sure it looked smooth. Originally it had wings but sadly they weren’t secure enough and ended up breaking off, meaning I had to do some cleanup before I could bake it. The thing I learned most about during this process was designing not just for it to look pretty but also for a result to be functional in what it is intended to be used for. If I did the project again, I would try to design the wings differently so they stayed better on the body, and I would also make sure the design was 100% functional as the end result is a bit hard to drink out of if you’re dominant hand or the hand you use to drink out of a mug with is your left one. This week, I hope to finish the writing portion of Pandora’s Jar and decide which two jars I would like to create.

April 18th 2022

This week I’m starting work on my Sgrafitto tile. I finished the written portion of Pandora’s Jar and selected Limbo and the Elemental Plane of Water jars to re-create last week, so now it’s time to start the next project! I hope to have an idea of what I’m doing by the start of next week.

April 25th 2022

This week I’m going to (hopefully) start carving my Sgrafitto tile. Mine is going to connect with Myriam’s, and I chose an inkcap mushroom to be on mine as that is my favourite mushroom. It’s designed so someone can connect from any side in case someone else needs someone to connect theirs too. Below are my insperations and sketches.

May 2nd 2022

This week I am continuing work on my first passion project, Pandora’s jars, and beginning work on my second one, a box head for a cosplay. Last week I finished my tile and got the fake metals and fish scale made for my Pandora’s jars, but I need to glaze them this week.

May 16th 2022

Last week I finished my redstone block test for my passion project. This week I am hoping to get my award project nearly finished so I can finish my passion projects next week.

Paper Mache Award Purpose

My paper mache award will be for mom’s birthday, for being the #1 frog lover. I didn’t need anything to inspire me as the idea for it quickly came to my head, but here are my sketches.

This project was very difficult for me. I learnt how difficult craving into tiles is and if I were to do this project again I would have picked a much simpler design.

May 26th 2022

Last week I finished my pandora’s jars passion project and continued work on my award. I have been sick for most of this week put hope to at least get my second box constructed and painted white so I can measure and paint it with colours next week.

May 30th 2022

Last week I finished assembling my box and preparing it to be painted white. I had to stop my award project due to sensory issues but I hope to finish painting my box by the end of this week so I can start work on the moustache.

June 22 2022

The past few weeks I finished my box head, I finished it’s white coat, got it painted in colour (despite many struggles), and created it’s spinning moustache and eyes. It’s being sealed at home, and I’ve also tried on the entire cosplay.  I had a lot of fun in this class and I can’t wait for mixed media next year!

I wanted to make a cosplay for one of my favourite Youtubers, however I’m not very good with makeup and I wanted to be able to make online content without showing my face. So I got the idea to make this head of his avatar in the game “Minecraft”. As a fun little detail, the moustache is removable and spins! I made it using cardboard, acrylic paint, hot glue, fabric, magnets, and a ball barring.

Pandora’s Jars

I decided to create a homebrew (non official/fan made) item for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition and then recreate the item in real life. These are pandora’s jars, jars that can only be made once Pandora, a sort of deity of dimensions, teaches you the recipe. When opened or broken, they unleash the dimension they are tied to, taking over the surrounding area.

For the physical pieces, I recreated the jar that connects to the Plane of Water and the jar that connects to Limbo. Both are made using large glass jars with materials inside to emulate the recipe as close as possible. The Plane of Water jar’s recipe is a fish scale, a stone from the ocean, a vial of water from a water elemental, and a piece of lead. The Limbo jar’s recipe is a a vial of liquid chaos, two distorted elements (inside the jar is liquid fire and solid air), and a piece of nickel.
