Inquiry – Expressive Emotive Faces:
Sadness and grief
March 2022 – Clay, underglaze, overglaze Emmaleigh Ho Sadness and grief is the first expressive emotive face I made; to help process my feelings, thoughts and emotions by making it into art. I used my fingers to make the indents in the eyes, face and mouth. I deepened the eyeball sockets and the mouth to add more dimension to the piece. I wanted to have the tears well out of the eyes thus creating the indents of pain through said emotions. I ended up doing plenty of coats of underglaze to create the combination of beautiful blues; therefore creating more depth. I decided on no eyebrows because I wanted to have a focus on the eyes, cheeks and mouth. I kept the nose simple so it wouldn't take away from where I wanted the focus to be. Stressed and overwhelmed
May 2022 – Clay, underglaze, overglaze Emmaleigh Ho Stressed and overwhelmed is the second expressive emotive face I made; this was a great way to express how I was feeling without using words. I made the eyebrows very prominent in both shape and colour to demonstrate the stress held in one's face. The bloodshot eye shows how overwhelmed one can be and not being able to "hide", whilst the other wide open shows that someone can seem like they're doing well externally (but not internally). The grin is very wide to represent putting on a smile and the teeth are very close for a chattering effect. I kept other elements simple in order to draw the viewers' eyes to the areas of desired focus. (The face consists of clay, underglaze and overglaze.) Paper Mache – Award:
Self compassion
June 2022 - Mixed Media Emmaleigh Ho Self compassion is the award I chose as it is something that I've made progress on and am still continually working on. I've noticed that I can be too hard on myself at times and being aware of that is beneficial; I try to remind myself to be more gentle, kind and loving because we all deserve it and more. The figure is hugging themself despite the situation, reality and/or circumstance. The person is painted blue as a state of being with the conflicts around them. On the outer frame is a ray of colours to display different emotions; the plastic poking through like glass to demonstrate troubles and hard- ships. The darker blue internal background is to show the "negative" emotions whilst having the "glass" poke through; however, it is pink showing empathy and care to those wounds in need of healing. The heart in the centre is pink to encapsulate that entire feeling of self compassion. The award consists of aluminum foil, tape, newspaper, paste, acrylic paint, cardboard, hot glue, and a (broken) plastic bowl. Progress on the "Self compassion" Award
